“Misinformation and biases infect social media, both intentionally and accidentally.” By Giovanni Luca Ciampaglia and Filippo Menczer. Ciampaglia and Menczer explain how social media has been full of fake news and misinformation. Research has identified three types of bias that make Social media vulnerable, this bias are Bias in the brain,Bias in Society, and Bias in the machine. Bias in the brain explains how the brain can just accumulate a certain amount of information and sometimes the low qualities of this informations it’s the one that grab people’s attention leading to miss-leaded information. Also sometimes emotions control whether that person should post yes or no. Bias in Society show how sometimes your peers are the one who gives you misinformation even thought they can do it intentionally or unintentionally. Bias in the Machine explain how what you see online it’s determined base on what everyone it’s reading or watching, and also what’s more engaging.
RESPONSE
Social Media its the main source in which I can know what it’s happening around the world and in my country, and most of the time it’s because of my peers and not really because of the random accounts that I follow. Sometimes I don’t believe some of the news that I read on social media until i see the same news multiple times from different sources. I would change my social media in the sense that it only can be legit news.
