The brain cannot handle being overloaded with infinite amount of information. When the brain is strained or feeling overwhelmed it uses shortcuts but can have negative effects if applied in the wrong contexts. Fakey is an app, developed as a news literacy game filtering out social media news feed.
The misinformation and bias opinion online infect social media, intentionally and/or accidently. Different biases make social media susceptible to a confusing ecosystem. Biases in machinery, the brain, and society are the main researched variables that make social media vulnerable. Sometimes low-quality videos alert viewers more than high quality. There are sometimes emotional tethers in titles that draws people’s attention. Sometimes biased and unbiased opinions from society influence our peers and misinform us. Last but not least machines determine what you see, read and/or watch more or less.
