Summary of “Proficiency” Jamar Henry

In the literacy narrative “Proficiency,” Shannon Nichols navigates from being a passionate, optimistic writer to an empathizing English teacher. Nichols almost didnt pass her senior year standardized test in writing. She fails by only half a point in writing (her strongest subject) on the Ohio state’s Proficiency test. Her friends and family loved her writing, but the state did not which puzzled her, so she took the test a second time and failed again. I can relate to Shannon in this respect because I failed test in junior high school, test I should have studied for but did not because I was up watching anime at late hours of the night. I failed the FCAT examination once in junior high school living down south in Florida because I neglected to go to tutoring centers. I graduated high school, but I missed the mark on a few regents’ exams once or twice. After further consideration I did my research took the test over and passed with reasonable scores.
