Summary
Summary: The Danger of a Single Story is about a popular Nigerian author who reflects on her past about how single stories affect her. Throughout her childhood she felt like she only knew one story, and not the bigger picture. As she grew up she realized how much an issue single stories can be. As a kid she read books and wrote at the age of seven. Single stories are when someone only has one perspective on someone or something. She faced many issues on people assuming things about her. She also assumed about issues, and places she has no knowledge on.
Response: I agree with Adichie and feel that people are ignorant, and some people choose to be that way. Not everyone has access to a Newpapers or books, so I understand why people would walk around with single stories. A lot of people are selfish and do not want to share resources, and this is the reason why so many people starve and can't enjoy the luxury of life that they are owed. She stated in her story that the consequence of a single story robs people of their dignity. It shows our differences instead of how similar we are to each other. Yes, we are all different in so many ways. But to only think about those differences and not the bigger picture. This could lead to arguments and even worse it creates war between countries. When people are open minded about things, we are able to come together as a community and solve issues. Those things could be solving crimes, finding a cure, or just helping someone.
