To begin with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie gave a TED Talk titled “The Danger of the Single Story” in July 2009 at the TEDGlobal conference and talked about how It was Western literature, and how with the majority of the tales focusing on white people from Western nations. She was unaware that African authors like Chinua Achebe have authored books as well , not just that but i can connect with her speech because a single narrative can have a profound effect on a person’s entire being, including their knowledge, thinking, and so on. Because I frequently see and witness individuals viewing others as different from them or simply fixed in one certain way so to me it seems very hurtful or disrespectful to just assume about a culture or country. to add on Adichie thinks that although we work in our lives from the perspective of hearing and knowing a single narrative about a person, a circumstance, or possibly a fight, tales do matter. And that we unconsciously use the perspective of the single story. The danger of only hearing one side of a story is that it may cause us to make snap judgments, default assumptions, and decisions that may be inaccurate and cause misunderstanding. We may be prevented from seeing a situation in a more intricate, nuanced way if we operate within the confines of a single narrative. to conclude Single stories, according to Adichie, can have a grave adverse effect. They can deprive people of their dignity and highlight our differences rather than our similarities. This talk aims to raise awareness of the significance of tales. thank you
