Shannon Nichols is frustrated because she doesn’t know the reason why she fails her 8th grade test, she was a good and dedicated student who always got good grades , so she couldn’t assimilate that it was true that she didn’t succeed in her writing test. Writing was one of Shannon’s favorite subjects, it was very difficult for her to understand how being so good she had failed which led her to become disillusioned with writing and she never looked at it again with the same love once had for it . This bitte experience showed her that not all readers will equally appreciate her writing.
Since I have parents from different cultures, I had to travel a lot between The Dominican Republic and Greece, which led me to have serious problems with both languages for many years . when I started high school I did it in Greece and I had to face a lot of challenge with writing , Greek language is very different from Spanish . But I was so lucky to have great teachers that help me and support me all the time , I won’t say that I hate writing but it does make me a little nervous and anxious when it comes to writing.

I agree with you Mariela about different of cultures and challenge with writing in both so various languages like Spanish, Greek and English. I was born in Poland, and went graduated the high school over there. This is completely different story here and there. The way you build sentences in English and Polish, and grammar are different. But been here, in this country and have ability to study here gave me a new possibilities to improve myself and my skills. Never give up and do not let anybody to lets you down makes you stronger person. And it is so good to have people around you how support you everyday.
Thank you so much for your words. it’s nice to know that you understand me about the difference between cultures. It is important to keep a positive attitude and fight for our dreams.
Thats so impressive knowing the greek and spanish language !!! I loved how you can relate to the author and explained how you related. The more writing, reading and practice you do, you will perfect it. I still have some trouble with grammar and some spelling but I try to do my best and I try to practice by having a journal as well.
Hi Mariela! I agree with you because she was frustrated with herself and at the end she believe that she wasn’t worth it enough. I also understand you because it has been really difficult for me to write in a different language that it’s not the one that i’ve been writing my whole life. and also having to learn a complete different language help me improve myself to not give up and keep trying my best always.
That is so amazing having to balance both Greece and Spanish! Like you mentioned it is definitely very different from one another and I can definitely see why it has been difficult! But with practice anything is possible and I liked how you were able to really connect with the author about the difficulties with writing .
