The article “Snapchat wants you to post, its willing to pay millions” talks about the possibly of being able to make tons of money off of posting videos and it gaining good amounts of viewership. In the article their are a few people who talk about learning about a new system specifically on snapchat called Spotlight. This serves as a subsection in snapchat that is used to combat/compete with other social media platforms by it now being monetized. This allows creators to now be paid handsomely, in which its paying more than any other site. Before it began to pay creators and non creators for making content it was originally just used to communicate with other people or make friends. Full time Creators who were on the site were struggling to make money berceuse depending on who you were and the lack of monetization, the only rare way to make money was through a contract, brand deals and the selling of merch. Due to Snapchat being dead for years they needed a way to be relevant again. Creators and or non creators such as Andrea Romo and Cam Casey both had discovered this side of snapchat and both just posted something random which gained traction. Andrea Romo was paid half a million dollars by simply posting a snapchat video on thanksgiving where a turkey was being deep fried. Cam Casey was a TikTok creator with a huge following that posted a experiment with coca cola and it went viral. Such activates like this can pay a hefty amount of money whether the content is to be informative or for the purpose of entertainment. The only issue is the competition of TikTok being the place to be and as the system Spotlight becomes more popular, the money that’s distributed causes the funds to decrease due to more people posting. This ultimately creates competition which begs the question whether Snap can survive without bestowing fame onto their creators rather than just paying them.
My Analysis of this article is that, I’m shocked at the fact that’s its the most monetized platform as of right now. I wasn’t aware of the amounts of many that were being generated by creators. As being involved in the world of streaming and making of videos on Youtube I was aware of where the money was coming from but at the amounts its coming in is insane. You have to make content that appeases to your audience but overall this article shows the evolution of Snapchat itself, how it competes with other platforms and the result of the change between between the platform and creators/non creators who post content on it.

I agree i also did not expect creators (especially on snapchat) to be making so much money. I knew they made money but i never sat and thought it could be this much. I truly did not expect it to be so life changing. The evolution of snapchat really is shown a lot; If we think about how snapchat was when it first came out we realize how far it truly came and how people are benefitting from its growth.
