Letter of advice-Christian Torres

Dear upcoming college students,

Your first year at any college whether it be a community college or a 4 year it will most definitely be stressful. From even the process of college when applying for schools and trying to figure out your purpose is enough to get your mind going. For me I didn’t like the process because it can make you feel overwhelmed especially if you aren’t sure of what you want to do. So in order for you to go through these things more smoothly you need to take the time and figure out what your future will look like regardless how hard it may seem. When choosing a college I would suggest picking the most affordable option even if you feel you have money to spend on a “good school”. There are programs to help pay for college so if you cant afford it necessarily there are options to help you. College can be a new fun experience while being very draining at times. There are many opportunity’s to socialize and make friends while at college which can make it all worth while. Depending on the person, meeting new people may not be an option for you personally but its not the end of the world if you go to college just to get your education and get out. Some beginner tips are to make sure you have a balanced schedule that you can work around so that you can focus on your classes and ultimately do well. Make sure to reach out to your advisor on a daily basis so they can guide you on a career path and just someone who knows the school. See them as a friend to get your feelings out to so they help resolve issues you may be facing. This includes class schedules, financial advice in terms of what classes my cost and helping you stay on top off your work. Finally the last tip is to enjoy yourself through theses new stepping stones that you may or may not be ready for. Its ok to make mistakes when applying for classes or simply choosing a major that you might not be sure about. Keep in mind that college is a handful so don’t let it consume you, there are multiple resources that can be utilized throughout your journey to improve your situation. Always remember that college is an experience, mistakes will be made but don’t let the decisions that you make today define who you are tomorrow.
