In the article “The Danger of a Single Story” written

by Chimamanda Adichie, the idea of a singular story about a group of people

That is harmful to society as whole because it commit unjust stereotypes

and warps people’s idea of reality. Adichie explained, in the presentation that

the single story of Africa as it was known by her roommate during college

caused her to unfairly associate Adichie with ideas of cultural history.

However, the author also clearly faults herself for also being influenced by

“The Single Story” shows that she made mistakes like many others. Due to

the strong media coverage on Mexican immigration she “had bought into the

single story” automatically associating all Mexicans with immigration. These

stories emphasize how stereotypes are formed due to incomplete

information. But, one story should not define a group of people. Therefore,

Adichie says she will not insist that it is those negative stories that make her

who she is, and in my opinion it is because it then overlooks all the other

incidents and happier stories that also contributed to her present just one

single narrative can create stereotypes and the problem of this is not that

they are untrue but incomplete.
