In the article “Snapchat Wants You to Post. It’s Willing to Pay Millions” Taylor Lorenz discusses the new Snapchat feature Spotlight. This new feature has allowed for people to gain money from uploading videos online. Despite their success however, beating the competition against TikTok would be difficult. One thing is for sure though, Spotlight has been able to grant many individuals with new opportunities and opened doors for many due to the monetary gains now at reach.
In the article it is stated how “Dominic Andre, 27, an influencer in Los Angeles who creates educational content, is hoping to use the $600,000 that he’s earned on Spotlight to launch a science and education collab house in Los Angeles.” This shows how Spotlight has also been a source of income to influencers and has granted them the ability to have a source of income by expressing themselves creatively. It goes to show how deeply influential Spotlight has been for many.
As for my personal use, I do have social media accounts however I am not as active on said accounts I usually use TikTok for entertainment purposes and Snapchat I don’t even have at all. Instagram is my main social media platform but I simply use it to support and see other’s post rather than posting myself. I don’t really have a negative perspective towards social media rather I see it as a creative outlet and applaud those who are able to create a source of income through it. Which is why I think this article has been able to show me the deeper way in which social media can influence your life for the better.
