Feminism to me means supporting the movement of women’s rights and equality of both of the sexes. Both men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. In the old days women would be treated like slaves. Can make no decisions, nor work or even have properties for themselves without being with a man. Without the man “The breadwinner” women couldn’t live a civil lifestyle. In “ We should be all feminists” By Adichie she says “We raise girls to see each other as competitors not for jobs, or for accomplishments which is a good thing. But for the attention of men” I agree with the quote because I do believe girls wanting attention from men is a learned behavior in our society. I think that it is taught and not instinct. I am a feminist because I know females can do anything a man can do as long as they want to do it and have the knowledge for it. Being strong doesn’t apply to most of the jobs today so why not let women join and be a part of the working field, women are not just passive and weak. We CAN be assertive and professional just like men CAN be more emotional and nurturing.

Hi Sheliyah. I totally agree with your definition of feminism. Many people see it as woman wanting to be more than men when in reality its about equality between both men and women. I also really like the Adiche quote about how women are raised to see each other as competitors when in reality as women we all get grouped in the same category. That quote is a great reminder of how feminism not only is equality between genders but also an act of looking out for other women.
