Summary
A letter with tips for college to the upcoming students.
Dear new BMCC students,
As you enter the BMCC community, we would like to share some tips as current students. These tips have come together from all our different perspectives and experiences. First and foremost we think it is essential for you to keep yourself on track time wise and for this reason we recommend for you to use a planner or even your phone’s calendar and reminders to ensure you stay on top of your assignments as well as meetings. Mostly if like me you are the type to be forgetful. Another thing that is very important is for you to prioritize school first, as someone with a part-time job I think that what I’ve learned this semester is that you must remind yourself that school comes first above anything and it is understandable to take a break from work if you need to focus on assignments or study for exams. Obviously it may be hard to do so mostly if you depend on that check for your expenses but sometimes just simply one week in the month of not working as many days as usual is needed. Keeping in check with yourself is also very important thus prioritizing mental health is principal which is why if you ever find yourself going through a hard time you should reach out to your counselor or even a close acquaintance. Another key tip to destress would also be to walk around the campus. I have found that going out and exploring the area and taking in a breath of fresh air definitely helps you not feel too overwhelmed. Studying for upcoming exams in advance is also very important which is why as we mentioned earlier it is essential you keep yourself up to date on when these upcoming exams are so you can plan out when to start studying for the exam rather than leaving it to the last minute. Since we already mentioned the importance of sometimes prioritizing your education over work I think another important tip is to manage the way you spend as well. As enticing as buying everything you want may be, you must remind yourself about the expenses that can unexpectedly arise in college with textbooks or even online courses which is why you must ensure to save your money from splurging and think twice. And finally we think the most important thing to remember is to reach out to your professors. I know to many, us included, you may overthink about seeking advice or asking questions to your professors but aside from helping clear out any misunderstandings communicating with your professor is actually the way to form a connection with your professor. Overall these are the tips we have found to share with you all, we wish you the best in your first year joining our community.
Sincerely
Katherine, Daisy, Israel
