Letter to future students Ramiyah, Zaria, Sheliyah

Dear Future bmcc students,
As current college students, with experience, we have a few tips for you. When entering college we recommend these tips for a successful college career. Firstly, be sure to keep track of your finances. As a college student, a lot of unexpected expenses come up. Always have an emergency funds just in case you’re in a situation where you need access to money. Next Step, Be organized. Make sure you stay on top of all your responsibilities! This includes class work, homework, and even meetings; whether it’s with your professor or academic advisor. Another tip would be, Acknowledging your mental well being. College is stressful and it’s a whole different environment. It’s normal to become stressed and feel like giving up. Always remember that your mental state matters most and it’s always great to get help in anyways available to you. Talk to a counselor or even someone you know. Find different ways to release and take small mental breaks. Now let’s focus on time management, This may be hard for students who aren’t very punctual. When scheduling classes always strive for what best suits you. Register early so you can make a schedule you’re comfortable with. If you aren’t an early bird don’t go for early classes. College schedules are flexible unlike high school. You can choose morning, afternoon, night, and even weekend classes. Choose what works best for you and not what seems good at the moment.
Also, learn to balance personal life an school life. Whether it’s your work life, relationships, or even outside responsibilities. Remember that you are on the road to achieving your future career; if you cannot manage certain things you must learn to balance it or break away from it completely. These things can be hard but remember to think long term! Our last word of advice is try to have a Good relationship with professors. Not all of them are friendly or the easiest to get along with, but remember they are responsible for your grade and the only ones that can help you with it. Always try to ask questions and engage in class. It will benefit you in the long run. These are all the important tips we have to share. Good luck!!

Sincerely,
Ramiyah, Sheliyah, Zaria
