In the article “Snapchat Wants You To Post. It’s Willing To Pay Millions.” by Taylor Lorenz we learn that Snapchat contains a feature called “Spotlight”. This feature enables users to upload short videos, that may be eligible for profit. Many users have benefited from this, such as Cam Casey who was paid nearly 3 million. This feature from Snapchat has seen a lot of success and many users prefer it over other platforms. It has changed lives for many by opening opportunities and benefitting them financially. Unlike TikTok, Snapchat doesn’t require a contract or for you to be an influencer to be compensated. This allows anyone to gain from the viral videos they post. Although snapchat is succeeding, it will still have a hard time overthrowing TikTok because of all the attention TikTok currently has. Current Snapchat creators have started to brainstorm ideas that will help them elevate on spotlight, such as a creator house. All of these things contribute to the success of the feature and attention that will be received.
I don’t post on social media and i mainly use 2 apps just to watch videos and look at posts. This article wont cause me to change my usage but it did make me somewhat curious. After playing fakey I did realize I don’t fall for everything that easily but there is somethings i should watch out for.
