Summary

The story " The danger of a single story" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie shows how we may or may not follow someone perspective without experiencing or knowing the full side of story. Chimamanda Adichie grew up in an University campus in Eastern Nigeria, she read books where the characters were white with blue eyes, they would play in the snow, eat apples, and talk about the weather. But in Chimamanda point of view, they wouldn't talk about the weather, since it will be the same as the other day, instead of apples they would eat mangos, and instead of snow, there will only be the sun. That was until she found an African book, she found characters with her skin color, their hair types, and how they could also exist in books. When she first came to the U.S.A to study, her roommate was shock, that she could speak good English, she was confuse when she told her in Nigeria their official language is English. This show her how she must of heard different versions. Chimamanda was also a victim of a single story, she felt overwhelm with shame as the media discusses how Mexicans was the abject of immigrants. She believe in that. That all went away when she went to Mexico, she saw people going to work, smoking, laughing, basically their everyday routine, she judge them based on what people has said about them. She realize their more than a single story.
