Summary
Chimamanda Adichie, a Nigerian female tells her story about what she is and did. Chimamanda was a learner since her childhood and started learning from other cultures instead of her own by reading British and American kid's books. She was wondering about what she was reading about the weather, food, and drink; Despite that, she never experienced them but knew them from books; Because she had never gone outside of Nigeria. Chimamanda thought that people like her could not be writers and someone else would read her books till she found writers Chinua Achebe and Camara Laye's books, and then she started writing her own about the lifestyle of a poor kid family that her Mother was always talking about their poverty till she thought they were incapable of anything. A couple of years later, Chimamanda traveled to the United States of America to study. Her colleague was surprised and felt bad for her about her lifestyle in Africa when she told her her story from Africa. Chimamanda did not find her true identity till she went out of Nigeria. After being in the United States of America for a while, she knew the difference between Africa and America and she said she would see Africans the same way as other people if she did not experience both continents. Chimamanda traveled to Mexico and found out that there are some other possibilities in Mexico that the media does not inform people but only negativities. While Chimamanda was in the US, she experienced that people had a bad image of Africa that there are physical abusers and not human rights in Africa. Chimamanda admitted that there are many negativities in Africa but also many positivities. She wishes some Americans knew about all possible things in Africa.
I believe that knowing other people's cultures and lifestyles is a Wonderful thing to do, by traveling to other countries or learning from books as Dimamanda experienced. Also, do not judge a country, race, or ethnicity because of a person. I also believe that there are positives and negatives in everything and everywhere. Nothing is perfect; if you have given information about something and you can find out yourself, I believe you should do so.
