The author of the narrative first believed her writing skills were excellent. She never questioned her writing abilities because it was one of her favorite topics in school. The author even goes into detail about how she was a strong student who was consistently on the honor list, who spelled every word perfectly, and who utilized proper language. Even though the author passed the test on the third attempt, she no longer had the same passion for writing and reading that she had before she severely doubted herself after failing the proficiency test and gave up on reading and writing. The graders of the proficiency test generate judgments because they have no personal knowledge of the writers. Since English is not my native language, I previously had some doubts about my writing abilities throughout middle and high school. Despite this, I had always felt confident in my reading and writing abilities. I frequently believed that my writing lagged in comparison to the other students in my class. I took a few classes in high school to try to gain a better grasp of writing and used additional tools to assist me understand the English language. Up until high school, I did feel like my writing skills were improving.
