Katherine Sangurima Conversation 1

After reading Shannon Nichols “Proficiency” I was able to take in her journey as a writer. Due to not meeting the requirements to pass her writing exam she began to create this negative connotation towards anything related to writing. Her decision to allow the results to overtake her entire perspective and attitude towards writing I understood, I think we have all been through a moment in time in which we worked so hard to achieve something, so much dedication and for it to not result to the outcome you wanted, it tears you down. Despite that I do feel like the author should’ve taken this result and this new found anger into working towards ways to improve her writing and if not that then to rethink about how much she’s losing letting this one failure overtake her entire attitude and perspective towards writing.

As for “From Math and Science to Writing” by Professor Barnes, after finishing the reading I was able to read about a moment in which our professor had to endure an unexpected outcome to her plans. This experience in which I was able to read into allowed me to learn that truly everyone goes through a moment in which life simply hits you with no warning and with no restrictions. Furthermore I also learned about how it’s understandable to give up on something that simply didn’t give you the results you wanted and didn’t suit your life. Many people may view this action as simply giving up but to me it’s taking action in ensuring that what you are putting your time and effort into is something you love to do. Because why work for something that isn’t helping you in reaching the goals and career path you have set for yourself.
