Summary
After reading the story "Proficiency", Shannon Nichols shows that she felt confident on her writing skills, but as soon as high school came around the corner the author it affected her because when she found out that she fail two writing exams she started to feel that she let herself down. However, the author then realize that she lost the confidence she had when having to write the exam she did. 'How could I have screwed up writing'? The author shows that she thought to herself that how was it possible for her to fail the writing exam if she put effort to it. Shannon was that student where she would always was in that higher standard of level meaning the student where they got good grades follow by getting honors it was a achievement for her to get to that level that she wanted. The author feels that the test she took was unfair because she did put effort but she just couldn't believe that she fail the exam. It shows that the authors point of view was discouraged because how can a simple easy task turn into a failing grade. If I was Mrs. Brown I would have said to Shannon "Don't feel discouraged we all make mistakes which is why we are all not perfect". In life we all go through times where we make mistakes but then it teach us a lesson where we would think to our self we can reread back to a writing piece to see how can I review the mistake that I did. There are different ways as well as tools to help you improve your writing skills. The other way would be that as long as you come to class on time as well as to all the assignments then that could be a passing grade for the class. We all should not feel discouraged over something we enjoy doing which then we are able to improve on but it takes time. There was a time where I had trouble writing a story because I didn't know how to start as well as would the reader enjoy reading my writing. I had my down falls because I was not sure if I would have a passing grade level. I felt that my writing abilities were neutral because my writing I did feel comfortable when I had to brainstorm. But when it came to publishing I thought to myself that I did follow the outline as well as hoping to having a wonderful grade.
