Hi my name is Adrian Forrester II, I’m from
Long Island, New York. I am a finance major and in my 2nd year at BMCC. I spent my first year living in NYC and attending classes in person. As you know the price of living in NYC is a-lot and I decided for my 2nd year I would continue attending BMCC. This year I decided to ditch the city life for my life back home and continue my education online.
Some things about me are I love playing basketball and making music. I took two years off after graduating before I decided to attend college and I have a dog named nova. I am also a Jr. and me and my best friend share the same birthday.
Welcome. Do you have a photo of Nova?
This is Nova she’s about a year old
She is SO CUTE! Thanks for sharing. I am an animal person. I have two dogs (among other critters…)
Hello Adrian, nice to meet you, your dog is super cute. I like the name you gave him, it seems unique to me.
My name is Mara Gordon. I am currently 17 years old. I will actually be 18 in 12 days. My major is liberal arts. I am not sure what I want to do in life. I currently work as a respite care provider for autistic kids. I also babysit on the side and help out at a family friend’s restaurant. I personally prefer to take online classes. I like to hangout with my friends. I am looking forward to learning new things in this class.
Hello Mara,
I hope you have a good school year and take your time in trying to figure out what you want to do out of life. Have fun along the way.
Hey Mara, we all just trying to figure it out. There’s no timer on figuring out your life and what you want to do with it. Working hard and having goals is important to stay ready for when you find out what you really wanna do. Hope you have a great school year and stay blessed!
Welcome Mara!
Hello, my name is Ellen Mitchell.I am 20 years old.I live in nyc.I like to shop, watch movies, hang out with my friends/bf ,eat , sleep, and listen to music.I am a chill and sweet person until pushed not to be.
This is my first year doing online classes and attending bmcc. It seems pretty cool so far. Today is my first day of classes and I’m excited to see what comes next. I’ve attended college before but I dropped out due to reasons. I am happy that I’m starting over again though this time on my own terms.
Welcome Ellen! I am glad you have decided to continue your education! Make sure to contact me if you have any questions!
I hope you have a good semester! This is my second year at BMCC and I personally prefer online classes. Good luck with your classes.
Congratulations to you Ellen for starting again. I can relate to that and believe what matters most, is that we keep going, even if there’s one or many pauses along the way.
This is my first year at BMCC as well. Happy you are back!!
Good that you’re back here, hope you’re enjoying it. What’s your favorite genre of music?
Hello Helen, nice to meet you. Don’t worry, online classes are not that bad or complicated. One piece of advice I can give you is to try to regularly check the announcements and assignments. I also like to watch movies, what is your favorite movie? My favorite movie is Love, Rosie.
Hi, my name is Kristi. I’m returning to BMCC after a few semesters off and happy to be continuing again. As an adult learner, working full time, it can be challenging to pursue a degree after so much time has passed being a student in a school setting. However, I choose to keep going, even if slowly, toward my goal and believing that it’s not too late for me to obtain my degree.
I’m a Communications studies major and excited about taking this class to learn something new. At the moment, I’m currently in Tokyo for a few more days celebrating my husband’s birthday and appreciate the flexibility that online classes offer. I’ve taken online classes with BMCC in the past but this is my first time using the OpenLab platform. I look forward to this class and engaging with everyone!
Welcome! Enjoy Tokyo!
Wow, I hope you enjoy your time out there! I really want to visit Tokyo one day.
Hi, my name is Fadel Hussein I’m 22 and this is my third semester. I am majoring in Criminal Justice and as a hobby, I bike around NYC. I have lived in New York City my entire life and would love to travel to other countries and explore their lands if I ever get the chance. My goal is to finish college and join the police force.
Some things I like are the color orange, pasta, birds, sightseeing, hanging out with friends, and playing games. Things I hate are Staten Island, zucchini, and the color pink.
The color orange is interesting. Pink is not. Welcome.
Hello!!!

Good afternoon, My name is ShellyAnn Harris. I am from New York. My major is criminal justice. I am a transfer student & this is my first semester at Bmcc. I am a single mother , my daughter is 8. She brings a lot of joy to my life.
In my spare time I work part time at an urgent care. Some of my hobbies are exploring new landmarks, traveling ,site seeing. This is my first time doing an open lab class. I look forward on grasping new skills and insight.
My name is Kiara Bermudez, I recently turned 21 years old, born and raised in New York City. I am currently studying Health Sciences to become a Radiologic Tech. Working in healthcare is something I’ve wanted to achieve since I was a kid. While it’s seen as hard, I find it to be rewarding being able to diagnose people with the correct treatment for their injury and being able to support them as well.
However, it’s not my only dream, I also dream about being a stylist one day. I have a very deep love for clothes and one of my many hobbies is fashion. When I’m not doing that I’m most likely listening to music, napping, or playing video games. I plan to add travel to the list soon so I’m able to visit places like London, Paris, and Milan because my mom traveled while she was in the Air Force, and those are also known fashion capitals
Hi Kiara, that is cool that you want to work in radiology, that is a very promising field. Traveling sounds like an amazing plan too! Visiting fashion capitals like London, Paris, and Milan would be an incredible experience, especially given their significance in the fashion industry.
Welcome!
Hi Class! I’m kind of late to the party. My name is Keyanna, I’m 22 and I am a Brooklyn native. I’m majoring in Business Administration. I thought linguistics would be a great subject to learn and that’s why I chose this to fulfill my scientific world flexible core. I am interested in exploring and understanding the complexities of human language, how they change over time/structure, and how it can be used in different contexts, grammar, phonetics, and semantics. Additionally, I hope to gain cultural insight, and develop problem-solving skills in the intricates of language. What I like to do most of my free time is work on arts and crafts, designing, reading, styling hair, and spending time with family. This is my first time using the CUNY Open Lab since I attended BMCC and eager to learn from here. I wish everyone a great and exciting fall session!
Welcome!
Hello,
My name is Darwin but I typically prefer to go by my middle name, Zach. I only just moved to New York from Dallas and I’m doing my best to explore the city and enjoy everything it has to offer, albeit on a limited budget. I’ve always had an interest in language in general, so I’m sure I’ll find this course to be interesting and enlightening.
I’ve previously worked a bit in commercial real estate so I’m attending BMCC in the hopes that I can continue on with that in the future. My fiancé and I have two cats, Bubbles and Wiggles. Wiggles was recently diagnosed with a relatively common disease in which her immune system attacks her own teeth and she had to have many of them removed, so now she’s a bit gummy. She’s a real trooper though and fortunately got to keep her biters/fangs. She’s a cutie!
I hope everyone is having a pleasant week, and I look forward to learning about linguistics with y’all.
Zach
Welcome. I love cats. (And dogs, birds, rabbits….)
Hey Zach!
I also recently moved to New York and am also trying to enjoy it on a student budget. I am a huge cat lover and I would love to see Bubbles and Wiggles should you be willing to share photos.
My name is Josh Oodit and I’m from Guyana and my major is Economics. I recently moved to New York to pursue my studies and I’m 25 years old and this is my 3rd semester here at BMCC and all I can say is that I’m having an amazing college experience. I love reading and listening to music. This is my first time using Open Lab so i’ll be learning more about this interface. I’m so accustomed to using Blackboard but this won’t be a problem.
Welcome!

I am from Ecuador, my first language is Spanish, my favorite color is green because I really like plants. I love eating but also cooking, my favorite pastime is reading and listening to music, even one of my favorite singers is Bad Bunny, however my favorite genre of music is merengue. Welcome! Green is my favorite colour as well!
Hey everyone! My name is Mizan. I’m a Studio Art/Art Foundations major, and this is my first semester at BMCC. Although art is my main focus, language is one of my passions. I’ve done a fair bit of traveling, and have had the joy of being able to learn a little bit of quite a few languages. The differences and similarities between all the different languages I’ve dabbled in (ie: sentence structure, grammar, tones, formality, pronunciations, etc.,) fascinated me. From my own interest I learned about the field of linguistics, and now I’m excited to be taking a course and receiving formal education about linguistics! I am sure it will have many practical applications in both my life and my creative ventures.
