Hello all,
I am enjoying your Introduction Speeches and many of you are making great strides. A few notes…
- Be sure you are following the outline template, only 3 complete sentences are needed (Intro, Body and Conc) then use bullet points of 3-5 words to organize your key points. This skill will be key when we get to longer speeches.
- When you record we want to see you from the hips up (Cowboy Shot) and you should be standing. It will be rare that you will present seated, if we were in class you would be standing at the front of the room. This was we can see body language, gesture and you can better use breath support by standing up straight.
- Please record your speech in one take rather than piecing together several takes. You will perform the way you practice. Record yourself several times, observe, give your self feedback thinking about what was effective and what was not, then try again. You will improve your speech making skills, your confidence and your grade.

– Be sure you are reading the assigned text before answering quiz questions so you are clear on what is being asked and how to answer with clear examples and reference from the text to support you. This skill will be necessary when we get to the informative and persuasive speeches which require research.

– Be sure you are taking the time to watch the assigned videos, they explain the expectations and break down the steps. All assignments are in written format as well both on BB and the Open Lab. This will help clarify what is expected from you and support you getting the most from the course.

Post your Special Occasion Speech outline and the link to your Speech Presentation. The speech should be 2-3 minutes in length and have a clear intro, body and conclusion. Respond to 2 classmate’s outlines with feedback, 2 pros and a grow.
When choosing your Special Occasion think about an occasion you might be called upon to speak at, real people you can talk about and honor, this will make the speech more authentic and easier to create.
Have Fun,
Prof. Christina
