SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN
Civic Engagement and Participation by Young People in a Democracy / ZOOM / BB CLASS
In lieu of the midterm exam, I will provide 2 surveys to the class which you can respond to at anytime by the due dates so please read over several times before you post your responses because the more you write, the more the key strokes increases for a higher score of up to 10 points for each survey. The 1st survey link is posted at the bottom of this post on “Civic Engagement”. The 2nd survey will be posted later on “Social Inequality”. Once you complete the survey, take a screen shot of the confirmation page at the end and post in the tab “Assignments” on BB You will see the folder “Civic Engagement Survey”. Please take your time to complete it. You will not be able to save and come back later so you will need to create time to complete the survey in one sitting. Also, you will notice a score of “0”. Don’t worry about the score. Once you post the confirmation page, I will have the data analyst look through and see the keystrokes and that automatically generates the 10 points based on the word count.

Culture and Leadership in the 21st Century
Remember that there is a culture or norm in many communities to participate in civic duties. How does your family, peers, community or the media influence your participation in civic or political matters in activities or issues that affect you the most? What of social change? What factors affect young people to come together for a collective action? Remember our last discussion on Hofstede’s 5 cross cultural framework? Here is a summary: See pages 179 – 189 of Culture and Leadership in the 21st Century
Here is the link that takes you directly to the survey: Social Movements / Civic Engagement Survey

My family, peers, community or social media influence my participation in civic or political matters in many ways all these factors can help me choose whats right and wrong and can make me choose what I think is the best decision for myself as a person. These factors can affect my social change by making me want to be a different person to make myself look better and make my social appearance more approaching to people. I would always want to be in the popular classes because to everyone that is the best class to be in. Factors that affect young people to come together would be anything that will affect our futures as a group. A example of that is when a artist name pop smoke died. This death affected everyone including myself. It made us come together as a group to mourn together .

My family does not really contribute to my political party because I have fought so hard not to have the same viewpoints and political agreements. My community and peers have more of an effect on the political party and viewpoints, I have because there around me and I see all the positives and negatives on my day to day. The factors that affect young people are freedom we always come together when it has something to do with letting the younger population have more of a way as a sense of being a young adult or abortion many people have different view points on it and its defiantly a sensitive topic last but not least same sex marriage or acceptance of your sexuality.

How does your family, peers, community or the media influence your participation in civic or political matters in activities or issues that affect you the most? What of social change? What factors affect young people to come together for a collective action?
My family and workplace affect the political manners I engage in by keeping me informed with these kinds of things all the time. My workplace heavily influenced where I rest in terms of political views. Factors that affect young people to come together is huge issues that have an effect on the young groups of course. Things that even can mess with the future for many people for example if they are messing with health care or something this may get younger group to get together against this issue.

How does your family, peers, community, or the media influence your participation in civic or political matters in activities or issues that affect you the most? What of social change? What factors affect young people to come together for collective action?
The society around me influences my participation in civic and political matters. For example, some of my family members keep me informed with daily news related to political matters. However, by keeping me inform it doesn’t pursue me on what side of the political spectrum to be. The peers around me help me interact more with social changes that matter to me for example, the feminist and the green movement. A lot of factors affect young people to come together, I think the most important factor is the need to see the change. If a young group does not see the true outcome of social issues, they won’t participate.
