The current health pandemic, the Corona Virus, causes an illness known as COVID-19 that has spread all around the world. This virus is very harmful and can lead people to death due to shortness of breath, flu, fever and tiredness. It is spread from a person to another one. It can be caught by touching infected surfaces or objects. Infected people can also contaminate others and pollute the air by coughing or sneezing without wearing a mask. It takes one to fourteen days for the symptoms to appear. Some researchers say that the Corona Virus came from animals bearing infectious diseases. This virus has already killed 15,361 people and infected 351,705 worldwide according to Wikipedia. There is no vaccine yet to help prevent the corona virus. Everyone, including people living in the hottest continent, is at high risk of getting infected if we do not pay attention to small details, such as washing hands as much as possible.
I heard people saying that the Corona Virus is not affecting kids or young people, but we have heard some cases among youth or young people. Everyone should be aware of this virus because it is serious, and it is killing people. According to Ed Yong, a staff writer who covers science at the Atlantic, each virus particle consists of a small set of genes, so washing hands thoroughly for twenty seconds can help reduce the virus. He also states that people get inflammation and fever because their immune system is trying to fight back and attack the virus in order to destroy it, but it can also cause more damage than the actual virus in extreme cases. Daniella Silva, a reporter of NBC News has posted on her blog that the corona virus cases have reached more than 20,000 in New York. It seems like New York has tested more people than other cities in the United States of America. Janelle Griffith, a breaking news reporter of NBC news has stated that loss of smell and taste is definitely one of the symptoms according to Rudy Gobert, an NBA player, who is recovering from the corona virus.
This is basically my first time to see and witness a situation that is making everybody freaking out and everything shut down all over the world. It is strongly required to wash hands frequently, cover faces with a tissue or mask, avoid close contact with people and animals and go see a doctor if any symptoms appear. Everyone should stay home and safe in order to save lives and protect ourselves and those around us. We as a people owe so much to all the doctors and nurses out there who leave their houses to go treat those who are infected. I truly appreciate their hard work and sacrifices. Health comes first, so please let all stay at home for our own good. This virus will pass if we are all working together in unity to make things get much better.
I’m in disbelief with the current situation our country has come to deal with. I would never expect us to experience an outbreak this horrendous at any given time. According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 325,000 people have come in contact with the coronavirus and a total of 14,380 people have died from the virus. Although, a total of 400 citizens have died in the U.S. from the virus according to CNN. People have been advised to stay home and to not go outside unless they are obligated to do so. Businesses and numerous stores have begun to shut down. Restaurants have limited the capacity of customers that can sit inside and some restaurants have limited themselves to only delivering food. We have also been advised to consistently wash and sanitize our hands, stand 6 feet away from each other, cough and sneeze into our elbows, don’t touch your face, and stay home if you’re not feeling well to prevent the virus from spreading to others.
According to the citizens app, an executive order called “The New York State on Pause” has been taken into effect on Sunday, March 22nd. This order requires citizens to stay home after 8pm unless they need to buy necessary groceries or medication, in need of medical attention, or their pet is in need of medical attention. All schools in New York have closed down and switched over to distance learning. I have noticed the streets getting emptier with less people around. It caught me by surprise seeing Times Square so empty as well, throughout my whole life I’ve always seen Times Square packed with thousands of people everyday. This my first time ever seeing it less crowded. Since there are new cases of the coronavirus everyday, hospital beds and medical essentials are running low. Because of these reasons, Trump decided to supply medical stations in New York with 1,000 beds. Starting on Tuesday, March 24th there will be test runs for the coronavirus vaccination. I went grocery shopping last week and the supermarkets have become super crowded with limited items for customers to buy. Items such as toilet paper and bottled water have become so hard to find because people are literally going crazy trying to buy everything they possibly can.
Overall, people are pretty much panicking over the situation. Although, I can understand why. We don’t know whether this epidemic will worsen or improve. We don’t know what’s coming next and that can be a scary thing for most people. All we can do at the moment is keep ourselves as clean and healthy as possible, and follow the orders that are directed to us. To some people this virus may not be as big of a deal but I hope everyone is taking serious precautions. This experience has taught me that something drastic must happen in order for the government to enforce workers to start cleaning the trains when it’s something that should have been done in the first place. I also learned how cruel people can be no matter what’s going on in the world. There were a few people caught on video trying to purposely spread the virus which is sickening. The coronavirus has now encouraged people to become very clean, but in my opinion if we all took these same precautions on a daily basis maybe this virus would not have gotten as bad as it did.
The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic is a pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The disease was first identified in Wuhan, Hubei, China in December 2019. Initial flu-like symptoms, such as fever, coughing, breathing difficulties, fatigue, and myalgia. Taking about 2-14 days before you like any symptoms. I would never expect us to experience an outbreak this horrendous at any time. According to Johns Hopkins University, more than 325,000 people have come in contact with the coronavirus and a total of 14,380 people have died from the virus. A total of 400 citizens have died in the U.S. from the virus according to CNN. People have been advised to stay home and to not go outside unless they are obligated to do so.
Avoiding close contact with sick individuals, frequently washing hands with soap and water. Not touching the eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands. Especially practicing good respiratory hygiene. these are the ways to stay safe, healthy and COVID-19 free. A lot of people fear what they do not understand or fear death in other sense but we all only have one life to live, so we live to our fullest or at least try to. When outbreaks such as this one comes around it instills fear into ones mind limiting them from certain opportunities or limit them from finding out the trust behind it all. They listen to the fake media and roll with the punches but thats no way to live. In fear of the unknown, research talk to more than one person get feedback from everyone if you must but fear can eat a person up inside even change their view on different aspects of life. some even now question “what is life now” “what did we do to deserve such a pandemic”. We see fear in the people now with this COVID-19 the state is in a national shut down. Everyone is lost no direction some losing hope and happiness because of this. what makes it worse is that the social media that revolves around the world is promoting fake facts about the virus. Others are making jokes about the virus some lying saying they are infected when they are not, there are even some who are making profit off the virus by promoting music, videos and skits about COVID-19. So we can see that though we have a serious outbreak going on in the world right now and for some it is good to laugh and be in positive spirits but we most not be oblivious to what is going on. Never fear the unknown research and find out what causes that fear of illness or possibly death.
I have seen a major change in the city since the outbreak subways being cleaned platforms being cleaned even turnstiles. All my years of taking public transportation never have i ever seen cleaning crew or even a maintenance worker down in the subway. i would always question if MTA even had someone who cleans because my god the trains subways and mezzanine has always been out right disgusting. Trains are now less crowded no one wants to be close to anyone. Recently i’ve seen a lot of racism to towards the Asian community which is absolutely not acceptable especially with the nations history of racism. Only because the virus was first heard of in China everyone feel the need to treat them different some distance themselves some name bash and discriminate against Asians. Its unbelievable the mindset of some people in this world but i guess thats the world we currently reside in. As long as i live and have a voice i will not allow such hate or lack of knowledge to effect me or way of thinking.
