Angelee Williams-just and unjust law

  1. According to MLK a just law is a man made code that squared with the moral law or the law of God . An unjust law is a human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law. The difference is a law that uplifts human personality is just.
  2. It makes a difference in someone’s lives their lives in society because anyone who breaks the unjust law has to accept the penalty . Nobody wants to face bad consequences, therefore an individual would obey or disobey by the rules.
  3. An an example of a just law is Medicaid and Medicare. This is a just law because it benefits humans. Sickness is a natural cause that happened to any human . It is a good assist that the government is providing healthcare . An unjust law today is money bail . Being imprisoned is a penalty. The cost for someone’s freedom whether the circumstances is a large price to pay .

Angelee Williams- War on terror

  1. What’s different about the war on terror is war of the ,ind , whoever puts fear into people hearts is their enemy. It is unbiased unlike traditional wars when it is directly against another opponent .
  2. The roving wiretaps of the patriot act violates the bill of rights . The amendments it violates is the 3rd 4th and 5th. For example the 4th amendment is freedom from unreasonable search and seizure. The roving wiretaps has surveillance of the suspect without permission ,invading personal privacy.
  3. Sneak and peak warrant is a search warrant allowing the law enforcement officers physical entry in private areas without owner’s permission.

Angelee Williams – lemon test

  1. I understand the establishment clause because it shields people from having a religion forced upon them by the government. It also protects people from having their own beliefs limited from government authorities. I understand the lemon test because it has three criteria’s that have to be satisfied. It decided whether or not a law or action should stay in effect , and to be constitutional.
  2. Burning the U.S flag is protected by the first amendment. The first amendment states states that “congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or abridging the freedom of speech”. The Supreme Court decided that the case from 1984( Gregory Lee Johnson )says that “burning the flag was a for, of symbolic speech protected by the first amendment and found the law as applied to flag discretion and to be unconstitutional”. Congress passed the “ flag protection act” and it was found unconstitutional.
  3. What it means when someone is “taking the fifth “ is refusal to answer questions cannot he used against themselves in a case.

Angelee Williams Module 7

  1. The federal ,confederation ,and ,unitary system are different. The federal system is that citizens are able to vote and engage in the government. In the confederation citizens have more power and the unitary system citizens don’t have a voice and the power is focused on the central government.
  2. I understand the system division of power because there is 3 branches the legislative , executive , and judicial . Each one plays a specific role and support one another . The legislative branch makes the laws which consists of 100 senators and 435 representatives. Executive branch there is a president and vice president and they are responsible for enforcing laws. Judicial system has 9 members who declare punishment and elucidate the laws.
  3. The federal government shape the actions so state and local governments by providing funds as affordable health insurance. For example, during the pandemic there were a increase in funds for science research , testing treatment and vaccines.

Angelee Williams-

  1. The upper class wrote the constitution. The constitution was against a democratic government. The class that was excluded was middle and working as well as under . The difference between upper class and under is people apart of the constitution were wealthy and owned property . Under class was excluded because they wouldn’t have nothing to offer such as money.
  2. The social class structure of early United States society is different . I say this because inequality and racism in the past was evident. Women were not allowed to vote as well as some men. People were discriminated by their race or color and had disadvantages. For example education, healthcare and jobs . In society today , anyone can vote as long as your legal to and the same education is being provided for everyone .
  3. The people who wrote the constitution were so afraid of democracy because the government and its laws would not be the same . If it was a democratic gov the people would have an input on how the constitution works . Making things equal and fair for everyone like themselves. The framers do not want that happening they want to stay superior.

Angelee Williams –

  1. The statistic on wealth that made the biggest impression on me is “ if you are not rich it is because you lacked the foresight to pick the right parents at birth , studies show that despite the well publicized cases of self made fortune rags to riches is relatively rare exception “. This shocked me because you cannot choose what family you are born into so it’s not necessarily your fault if you are not wealthy or middle class .
  2. Living in a society that has such huge wealth inequalities would make the poor population increase because they would not have much source of income. The super rich would be thousands of times richer than the poorest fraction . I see this being played out everyday because for example “ corporate profits have more than doubled , income from investments has grown two or three times faster than income from work “ . This shows that the rich would have the upper hand always .

Angelee Williams -means of production

  1. I understand the means of production because a products value is measure by how much labor is takes and I manufacture under normal circumstances. For example, a working class person going to work they are putting their labour power in exchange for money . I understand labour because it is measure by time , it is the source of value it increases the value of what you have . For example , you can make a chair under 15 hours but can make a couch within 36. Since it took more time the value of the couch would be more then just a chair.
  2. Value is the importance or worthiness of something . What gives value to value is surplus value . It is profit and increases twice. What makes something valuable is the time being used not the effort.
  3. Labour and value is related because labour is the source of value , the additional time being invested makes the byproduct worthier.
  4. The difference between labour and labour power is the time required to create the product . Labour power for example is working a 9- 5 you put your time and energy into your work for money .
  5. Surplus value is the double increase of your profit . Value added to the original value . Working 4 hours (9-1) but you do not leave till 5 . There’s an extra 4 hours added onto the time you worked which is more money but not for you but who you are working for.

Angelee Williams – southern politics

  1. I think southern racist politicians chose to frame their defense of racial segregation through the language of “law and order “ because it secretes the truth of racism. The special advantages this gives them is more support to form a law against blacks .
  2. I think the southern strategy is still influencing American politics because “ conservative whites began , once again to search for a new racial order that would conform to the needs and constraints of the time “
