HAMZA TAZOUTI- How Capitalists Maintain Wealth ?

The diagram M–C–M’ serves to describe the way that owners of wealth keep and grow their riches. In this sequence, the letter M stands for currency, the letter C stands for physical goods, and the letter M’ stands for a higher amount of currency than the owner possessed at the start. Many people believe that capitalism is different from small production because small production exists for individuals to trade items for what they need, while capitalism is focused on profit and accumulating wealth.

Investment begins when the owner of wealth uses currency to purchase physical goods such as mechanical devices, raw materials, structures, and human work capacity. Human work capacity is the strength of the employee to do tasks. Finished items are manufactured by staff members who use these tools so the items can later be traded in the marketplace. It has been observed that the owner receives a larger quantity of currency than the amount that was originally spent after the items are traded. Surplus value is the name for this extra amount, which the symbol M’ represents.

The acquisition of surplus value is achieved because employees create more worth during the shift than the payment they receive for their efforts. Experts claim that the part of the shift that pays for the needs of the individual with a working position is called necessary labor. Surplus labor is the name for the rest of the working time which generates profit for the owner. When a staff member creates enough worth to pay for their salary in 4 hours but continues to work for 8 hours, the additional hours produce the surplus value for the person who owns the wealth.

Currency changes into capital when currency is placed into the creation of goods to make more currency. The owners of wealth keep and grow their riches when they perform this circle of events over and over. Gains are put back into the creation of goods by owners so they can employ more staff and keep taking surplus value from human effort. It has been observed that this sequence of events is how the class of owners keeps its riches and increases its power as years pass.

HAMZA TAZOUTI – Means of Production, Labor, and Surplus Value

1-Instruments, machinery, structures, and raw components required to create commodities or assistance are recognized as the means of production. Physical or intellectual effort performed by individuals using those instruments is identified as labor. Regarding a shop for blended beverages, many people believe that the blending devices, harvest, cooling units, and commercial assets represent the means of production. Individuals who prepare refreshments and assist patrons are viewed as labor. This labor is utilized by owners to operate the equipment.

2-According to the video, value arises from socially necessary labor time, which describes the typical duration of effort needed to generate an item under standard circumstances. Items gain worth because individuals dedicate time, energy, and expertise to manufacturing those items. It has been observed that a craft-based item usually possesses higher value because increased human effort was demanded for creation. This value is determined by the duration of work provided.

3-Connection exists between labor and value because human effort generates worth. Unprocessed resources do not emerge as helpful items without human activity being applied. Many scholars claim that workers modify materials into goods which individuals purchase and utilize. Final worth of a commodity is influenced by the quantity of effort required. This labor is considered the primary source of all economic utility.

4-Distinction is found between labor and labor power. While actual effort being carried out is labor, the capability and strength of an individual to perform tasks is defined as labor power. Working individuals exchange their labor power for monetary compensation from employers. Experts claim that when an individual commits to an eight-hour duration, that person is trading their labor power during those specific hours. Earnings are generated by the owner through the application of this labor.

5-Remaining worth produced by workers exceeding the compensation they receive is identified as surplus value. If an individual generates five hundred dollars in commodities during a single period but only receives one hundred and fifty dollars, many people believe that the leftover wealth stays with the business proprietor as profit. Logic of social classes being linked to capitalism is clarified through this concept. Although value is created by workers, the majority of financial gain is retained by owners, which expands the gap between different social groups.

HAMZA TAZOUTI-Class and Labor in Society

1-Within Reading 4.3, the text describes how financial wealth is obtained differently by diverse individuals. Experts claim that the methods of obtaining wealth differ significantly between groups. While an owner gains earnings from property and investment holdings, an employee receives payment through a fixed salary. Financial gains are acquired through property ownership by some individuals. Because a retail service provider receives an hourly wage, that retail service provider functions as an employee rather than an owner.

2-The statement from Adam Smith suggests that labor generates all intrinsic worth. Many people believe that physical effort remains the primary source of all created things. Intrinsic worth is generated by labor within the marketplace. Even though money exists, money alone cannot produce manufactured goods without the action of a person. When a person transforms raw timber into household equipment, that person gives the item value. Labor is significant because profit disappears when no person is present to perform the tasks.

3-Regarding Reading 4.4, the argument states that class should not be confused with personal self-image. It has been observed that class remains separate from how a person views themselves. A person’s life possibilities are shaped by financial status. While an individual might not choose the label of the working group, the financial status of that individual dictates their daily existence. Class involves the ownership of a commercial enterprise or the necessity of performing tasks for a wage.

4-The phrase “class structures are built around a close form of dependency” in Reading 4.4 indicates that different groups rely on one another. Experts claim that the connection between an owner and an employee is inescapable. Mutual reliance is required for the system to continue. Because an employee requires a wage to maintain existence, that employee seeks a working position under an owner. When a dining establishment requires labor to keep functioning, the owner depends on the tasks performed by the employee.

HAMZA TAZOUTI – Social Class in NYC

3-Based on Reading 4.2, evidence shows that social classes in NYC are divided by distinct residential sectors. Large amounts of wealth exist in Manhattan, whereas various sections of the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens are primarily occupied by individuals with low income or those who hold a working position. Many people believe that the layout of the public transportation system demonstrates how financial status shifts significantly within a very small number of transit stations. This visible arrangement shows that the residential location of a person remains tied to financial resources, dwelling availability, and life chances because New York City distributes opportunities based on these spatial boundaries.

Hamza Tazouti – Repressive and Ideological State Apparatuses

1- Louis Althusser describes the Repressive State Apparatus as a collection of social structures that keep stability using power, penalties, or anxiety. Experts claim that the police, military, judicial systems, and incarceration facilities are the primary organizations within the Repressive State Apparatus. Order is preserved by the Repressive State Apparatus through the application of physical strength or the threat of legal action. Because individuals feel worried about the results of violating regulations, the Repressive State Apparatus is called “repressive” by Althusser. Governments utilize the Repressive State Apparatus so that authority is held over the general public. When a person performs an illegal act, the police force detains that individual while the judicial system mandates a period of confinement. It has been observed that the Repressive State Apparatus creates a situation where the law is respected because humans are terrified of being penalized. This specific character of the Repressive State Apparatus is defined as repressive because control is achieved through intimidation. Citizens follow the rules when the Repressive State Apparatus demonstrates the strength of the government.

2-Societal structures known as Ideological State Apparatuses function as organizations that guide the thoughts, morals, and actions of the community rather than using physical power. Educational institutions, religious groups, kinship circles, communication networks, and local traditions serve as prime examples of these systems. Experts claim that Ideological State Apparatuses provide instructions on what the community views as standard, proper, or prosperous. Because these organizations exist in every part of life, the collective consciousness of the public is directed toward specific social norms through constant exposure. The operation of Ideological State Apparatuses depends on changing how the human mind understands reality. Educational institutions provide lessons that go beyond mere reading and writing because they also demand order, submission, being on time, and honoring those in charge. Many people believe that the population starts to embrace these perspectives as natural truths without any doubt because the influence is constant. Punishment is avoided by Ideological State Apparatuses because these systems rely on the power of thoughts and convictions, unlike Repressive State Apparatuses.

3-Social order is maintained through different strategies by the government. Experts claim that the distinction between Repressive State Apparatuses and Ideological State Apparatuses exists because of the different tactics these systems employ to regulate the community. The method of governing populations is determined by the specific tools that the ruling power chooses to use. While Repressive State Apparatuses rely on physical strength, Ideological State Apparatuses utilize the mind. Because power needs stability, these two systems function together even though they work separately. Violence and the threat of harm serve as the foundation for Repressive State Apparatuses. It has been observed that Repressive State Apparatuses utilize force and punishment so that the population follows the legal requirements. Strict obedience is demanded by organizations such as the police and the military forces. These groups, judicial courts, and correctional facilities ensure that individuals do not break the law because fear is a powerful tool. When a person refuses to follow the rules, the Repressive State Apparatuses intervene to correct that behavior through physical means. Internal thoughts and personal perspectives are the focus of Ideological State Apparatuses. Many people believe that Ideological State Apparatuses are effective because they change how a person thinks. Beliefs are shaped by the educational institution and the communication networks that people consume. Other examples include religious organizations and the private household unit. Because Ideological State Apparatuses teach the values of the ruling system, individuals follow the rules of their own free will. While Repressive State Apparatuses use the body, Ideological State Apparatuses use social conditioning to manage the spirit.

4-The image shows how society and powerful institutions influence people’s thoughts and behavior without using force. The puppet strings symbolize invisible control through media, culture, and social systems, connecting to Althusser’s idea of ideology shaping people’s beliefs.

HAMZA TAZOUTI – Understanding Ideology and Political Beliefs in Society

How do I understand ideology?

Beliefs and specific values define how human beings view the global environment and community structures. Ideology impacts the way individuals contemplate governmental affairs, financial resources, favorable outcomes, and communal challenges. It has been observed that ideology is followed by people without awareness because household units and educational institutions teach these concepts. Ideology is absorbed through communication channels and spiritual systems by children while they grow within a specific culture. Many people believe that diligent labor leads to the attainment of favorable outcomes for the individual. Harder efforts are encouraged by this concept, even though some individuals fail to notice that initial advantages are not shared by everyone. The reality of unequal beginnings is often ignored by those who focus only on personal drive because of the strength of this belief. Ideology remains the primary reason why social disparities are sometimes overlooked by the public. Human conduct and personal viewpoints are formed by ideology during daily life. Concerns regarding individuals with low income, medical professional services, educational institutions, and fairness are viewed through the lens of ideology. Experts claim that ideology causes various groups to interpret the same communal problems in opposing ways. Certain perspectives are made to seem ordinary because the community surrounds individuals with these specific views from birth. Ideology creates a framework that makes specific thoughts feel natural to the human mind.

2-Difference between conservative and liberal ideology in U.S. politics

Many people believe that the primary variation between conservatives and liberals exists in the authority that the state administration holds over social life and financial systems. Individuals who identify as conservatives advocate for a limited state administration and reduced fiscal charges while promoting personal accountability and increased liberty for commercial enterprises and separate persons. It has been observed that conservatives emphasize that human beings must maintain self-sufficiency instead of looking for assistance from the state administration. Liberals suggest that social and financial difficulties are solved by the government through specific interventions. Experts claim that support is given by liberals to initiatives providing medical assistance, educational institutions, and aid for monetary hardships. Regulation of commercial enterprises is encouraged by liberals because the protection of laborers and the natural surroundings is necessary. Opposition to increasing fiscal charges is common among conservatives since conservatives argue that individuals should retain their own wealth.

3-My understanding of Althusser’s definition of ideology

I understand Althusser’s idea of ideology as the way society teaches people how to think and behave without using force. He believed institutions like schools, media, religion, and family shape people’s beliefs and make the system feel normal. According to Althusser, people often accept society the way it is because ideology teaches them to see it as natural. Even when the system is unfair, people continue following the rules because they were taught to think that way. For example, schools do not only teach subjects like math and history. Schools also teach discipline, obedience, punctuality, and respect for authority. These lessons prepare students to follow rules later in jobs and society. I think Althusser’s idea shows how powerful ideology is because people usually do not notice how much society influences the way they think and act.
