Hello class, my name is Jason Medero. I am a business management major. I am 25 years old and currently live in Staten Island. I am hoping to obtain enough credits this semester to be able to submit my application to become a NYPD officer. After completing my degree at BMCC I would like to transfer to either Hunter College or Columbia University. My hobbies are keeping up with the finance world, politics and traveling. I would like to one day be involved in politics. I just recently had a baby boy, he is 8 months old. Other then hanging out with him I don’t do much these days. I look forward to learning a lot this semester with the rest of you.
Hi Jason, congratulations on your baby boy!! Hope everything goes the way you want them to and you’ll be able to become a NYPD officer.
Nice to meet you, Jason. Congratulations on almost reaching your goal of becoming an NYPD officer. I’m curious about how many credits the academy requires you to obtain. Regardless, I am certain you will be a great success. I also found it fascinating that you mentioned being interested in the world of finance. Providing that this is a hobby of yours, I am looking forward to seeing your responses to topics that might involve economics. Lastly, you and I have similar aspirations as far as transfer colleges go. I too wish to go to Hunter or Columbia University. Maybe I will see you there! I hope you have a wonderful semester.
Hi Jason! Congratulations on the birth of your son! I too am considering transferring to Hunter College in the near future for their film program. I know that both Hunter and Columbia have great business programs. Nice to meet you, I look forward to learning together!
Hello Jason, it is so nice to meet you! After reading your post, I couldn’t help but feel a connection to you because I too am looking to pursue a career with the NYPD in order to become an officer. Well, I say officer but I’m looking to be more of a detective down the line. I truly hope that you are able to establish enough credits in order to find yourself in this career, I know you’ll enjoy it! Also, you mentioned as one of your hobbies is traveling. What about it? Where have you traveled if you don’t mind me asking? I truly wish to start moving around myself but I’ve been so scared due to the circumstances our world faces today. Lastly, congratulations on your baby boy! It is such a wonderful thing to be a father.
Hi Jason. Congratulations on your boy, I have a 7 year old too. I know what it takes to be in school and take care of family at the same. It’s a bit struggling, but with some big efforts we will make it to our goal. I wish you the best of luck on your NYPD application and your study continuity.
Hi Jason we have lots in common. I too just became a father. However my little man just turned one on August 12. I pretty much hangout with him and my wife too. I am also working towards my 60 credits to become NYPD. Maybe one day we will meet each other at the Police academy! Good luck.
hi Jason, really nice meeting you. congratulations on your baby! I bet he’s definitely your motivation and muse to everything now. I hope your wishes on becoming a police officer become true soon !!!
Hello Jason,
Nice to meet you. I’m taking this course because it is one of my requirements. I’m glad that you are taking it because politics is one of your hobbies. Best wishes.
Hi, my name is Rodelyne Samule. My major is Science for Health. I am 33 years old and a mom of a 7 year old boy. My plan is to obtain an Associate degree in Nursing and to transfer to 4 year college to do get my bachelor. I moved to the US from a Caribbean Country in 2017 and started at BMCC in 2019 in the Accounting major. I have decided to change for Science for Health last semester. Hopefully I will stick to my second choice. I am willing to learn a lot from this course and wish all of you a successful academic year.
Nice to meet you Rodelyne! I commend you on juggling both school and raising a young son. That is no easy task, especially in a country you’re just getting accustomed to. I too am 33, and currently balancing work and school, which can occasionally be a bit of a struggle. I wish you the best of luck on your new choice of major and much success in this class. Have a wonderful semester!
Hi Rodelyne! I totally relate to you when it comes down to the major change! It happens to almost everyone at a point in college. I struggled on finding the best major for myself back in 2020 which is why I was out of school for almost two years and of course the pandemic discouraged me a lot. But at the end we go back for what our heart truly desires and what’s best for us.
Hi Rodelyne, congratulations on your path in science & health. I believe that you will be a great nurse because you a parent. And from a parent to another parent the first thing that we learn is to be nurtures. So I believe that you are going to be a great nurse, and I wish you a very successful academic year.
Hello Rodelyne,
Nice to meet you. I see that this is your second time switching majors just like me. I first was in Computer Information Systems. After finding out that I have no interest in it, I decided to go after my all-time dream which is to become a teacher. I hope your second choice works out for you. Best wishes.
Hi, my name is Cristaly Sanchez this my second year of college and I’m majoring in Criminal Justice. Here’s a little bit about me, Im Puerto Rican and Dominican I live in the bronx, I am also a full type student here at BMCC. I’ve always enjoyed learning about politics and government so I’m sure I’ll enjoy this class and enjoy learning with everyone.
Hello Cristaly, it is so nice to meet you! I couldn’t help but to post a reply for your comment. I too am majoring in Criminal Justice! How do you like the major so far? And, what career are you looking to achieve from such? I know the vast majority of people who major in Criminal Justice typically find themselves in law enforcement but that is not always the case. Also, that’s amazing that you’re mixed with Puerto Rican and Dominican! I have a few Puerto Rican friends and some of them speak Spanish so fluently that it kills me I don’t understand the language too well yet. Lastly, how is the Bronx? I’ve lived in Brooklyn all my life and never really explored that borough of New York, crazy huh?
After getting your degree what do you plan on doing ? What made you want to major in Criminal Justice in the first place ? Glad your excited to speak about politics, we’ll definitely have fun discussions. Wishing you a great semester.
Hello Cristaly, you have a very unique name. With this being your second year of college I could imagine your close to obtaining your associates and being able to transfer out of BMCC, you must be very excited. I to am Puerto Rican but with Italian. Living in the Bronx must be exciting, I swear every time I drive around there somebody tries to jump in front of my car. I wish you the best of luck with your criminal justice journey!
Hi Cristaly, congratulations on your second year in college. I am not that much into politics and government but I am sure that you will be very successful in this class. And that you will be successful in your career path as well.
Hello class! My name is Belinda Hinckley, I’m from Brooklyn, New York, and I’m a history major here at BMCC. My goal after I graduate college is to become a museum curator with a focus on European and medieval history. Despite this I’m also interested in American history and government and have always considered myself a political person. I’m looking forward to learning about the different branches of government, becoming more familiar with the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and gaining a deeper understanding of the history behind American politics and how it has shaped our country as a whole. I wish you all luck in this government class and I cannot wait to learn more about you.
Hi Belinda! I have a friend who is trying to become a museum curator in Dallas, I think its a very interesting and important profession. I too am excited to learn about the ins and outs of our government. I hope to leave this class with the knowledge to help me flesh out my political beliefs and how they should be achieved.
Its nice to meet you, and I look forward to learning together this semester!
Hello Belinda! You seem to have a good vision of where you want to be and what you want to do that’s good not many people do. Working in a museum sounds fancy, also with the right connections I’m sure there is a lot of money to be made. I was actually born in Brooklyn So BK over all the other boroughs.
Hello Belinda! I also love history. I never thought about being a museum curator though so I’ll definitely look into that! I also want to be able to familiarize myself with the Bill of Rights and other concepts of the government.
Hey Class. My name is Tristan Flinn, this is my second year at BMCC, and I am a Art Studio major. After my time here at BMCC i intend to get my bachelors degree at a 4 year, and find a job I enjoy doing. Any who, I enjoy learning, and I look forward to taking this class with all you.

Hi everyone! My name is Joseph, and I’m a Video Arts and Technology major from Louisville, KY. This will be my first semester at BMCC, but my second year in college. From 2019-2020, I completed my freshman year at the Pratt Institute as a film major. Since May 2020, I have been spending my time working and saving money, as I didn’t see myself doing well in online film courses. After BMCC (I haven’t decided whether I’ll transfer after this year or next) I plan on attending Hunter College.
I am very passionate about film, but I also love music, nature, psychology, anthropology, thrifting, and collecting physical media.
I look forward to learning with all of you!
Hi Joseph. I think your major is cool. I have love for photography and I feel like video and photography works hand and hand. Photography captures a single moment whereas video catches and extend shot of that moment. I hope that your school year is great.
Hi Joseph,
I love your major! It is extremely creative and Hunter College is definitely a good choice to transfer to! I hope you’ll make BMCC feel at home. Good luck with everything!!
Greetings everyone! My name is Kianna Changoo, this is my second semester here at BMCC and I’ve decided to major in Criminal Justice. Why? Well, ever since I was a lot younger I have always had this burning passion to become an NYPD officer. But as I got older, I started to realize that I wanted to become a detective instead. The fact that you are given such an honor to bestow justice upon the society that you serve, the uniform, the badges, the arsenal of equipment, and being recognized as an important figure has always been a destined dream. Besides all that, I want to touch upon a little bit of myself more. I am a girly girl at times; I love to shop, do my hair, my nails, dress up, but I can also be a bit different at times. I’m a big gamer, I play a diverse genre of games- from shooters, fighters, and rpg’s. I’m mostly a console gamer, particularly the Playstation 5 and I’m a huge anime fan! Despite watching a great deal of anime, I do enjoy watching other things like horror, comedy, and romance. Also, I have just recently found a deep love for sports cars! Mostly, Dodge Challengers if I had to be honest. Overall, I am just an easygoing kind of girl and after graduating BMCC, I hope to pursue my career in law enforcement and possibly transferring to John Jay to further my education.
Hello Kianna, This is also my second year at BMCC and I recently changed my major to criminal justice. It’s very nice to hear how passionate you are about your career choice and nice to know it’s been something you wanted to do for so long. I also want to work my way up after being a police officer. I enjoyed your intro and look forward to learning with you and the rest of our classmates this semester.
Hi everyone, I’m Vitória
I’m originally from Recife, Brazil but I migrated to the US at 6. I’m twenty years old and I’m not really a fan of New York city life. I’m very excited to start this semester. I’m strictly doing online classes so I can work full time. I plan on getting excellent grades so I can transfer to a four year, and do a double major. I want to study Business and Writing. I would like to learn more about business and go back and give to the community I’m originally from. I want to continue pursuing my passion for writing political criticism and fiction stories. During the pandemic, I started research work for my book on racism in America. I focused on the evolution of political ideologies and white supremacy. I wrote about three chapters until I became overwhelmed with everything I was reading on the subject. Speaking and learning about politics is one of my passions and I’m excited about what this class has in store for me.
Hello everyone! my name is Arianna Hernandez, I am 21 years old from Brooklyn but from Dominican background. Im currently transitioning back to school after being out for almost two years. Im majoring in criminal justice and my plans after graduating here would be to transfer to john jay college and finish my remaining two years, and achieve my bachelors to then start my career right away as a police officer and eventually work my way up to become a detective. Im excited about this semester and I hope for the best during our time together in this course and also looking forward to learn as much as possible.
What inspired you to focus on criminal justice and what made you interested in being a cop/detective? I hope you have an amazing semester and wish you the best of luck with your plans for the future, it all sounds very exciting.
hi Arianna , congrats on getting back into school. I wish you the best on your journey to becoming a detective. that career definitely crossed my mind and sounds really fun. before I was inspired by shows like law and order so which one inspired you ?
Hello Arianna, This is very cool to me because I also plan on going to John Jay College and continuing to work my way up. Did you always know you wanted to become a detective or was this something you chose later on in college? I always had criminal justice major in mind since high school and I don’t know why I chose science as a major. I regretted that choice and switched to what I had in mind since the start and hopefully made the right choice. I look forward to learning with you this semester and am glad to know we have something in common.
Hi my name is Rached Willis. My name is pronounced as (Ra-she-ed). My major is Criminal Justice. This is my second year of college. Hey Rached ! Love that you have a passionate for what you want to pursue in life. I too wanted to become a police officer but then ended up switching it to the FDNY.I switched it because it’s less requirements and it’s always the career I wanted since I was 6.

This is my second semester at BMCC. I plan on being a teacher to kids of the age 7-8. I chose this age because at that age I knew I hated school do to my own teachers. I want to be able to protect and show kids that they are loved, I want to be able to show kids that they definitely have support no matter what. one of my main interest is drawing on canvases. I didn’t even know I knew how to draw, I was definitely bored and figured it out. In addition, I am expecting so I hope to have a smooth school year

My name is Destiny Balbi and I am dominican and italian.I 20 years young and a full time student as well as employed. When it comes to school, I am currently under the Political Science major and I’m also an upper sophomore graduating next semester.I chose the Political Science major because it’s a topic I’ve always wanted to pursue a career in and something that honest fanisates me because when me I think I’ve learned a little bit about everything, I discover more and more which I love cause i’m always eager to learn and expand my knowledge.Something I wish to gain for this course is just that, more knowledge.I want to be able to understand every standpoint in a argument but still be able to say my peace.
I know you will accomplish what you set your mind to do.
Hello everyone, My name is Karina Huerta and this is my second year at BMCC. I recently changed my major from Science to Criminal Justice. I tried my best to like Science and enjoy the classes I was taking but it was very overwhelming to continue doing something I wasn’t interested in. This semester I tried choosing all online classes because I feel more comfortable working at my pace in my own space. I really enjoy going out on my days off of school and work and trying new places. I love doing my makeup and being creative with it. I hope to learn so much in this class and hope we all learn from each other and have a great semester. Good luck to everyone.
Hi Karina,
I totally understand the feeling you might have had while switching majors. I applied to BMCC as a science major and currently working in the finance/economic field. I believe following your interests and passion is the most important factor. Good luck with everything!
Hey Karina, I’m glad you did what felt best for you when it came to switching majors. At some point throughout my journey at college, my major was computer science. Today it is psychology and I feel it is definitely a better fit for me. I hope the same is for you as well.
I also changed my major and think it was a better fit for me.
My name is Angella Nsemi. I will let you know a little about myself. My major is Social Worker. The reason why I decided to choose this major, I would like to make a difference in this field. I will be working with teenagers and I know it will be challenging. I am willing to embark on this new journey of a new chapter in my life, to make a difference in these teenagers lives, and to let them know there’s hope and they are loved.
Hello Everyone, My name is Taikiem Jennings this is my first year in college attending BMCC. I am studying Human Services through BMCC. At first I didn’t know what I wanted to do at BMCC. I enjoy working with others as a team and I am hoping to work in the human resources dept. after college. I always had a passion to help others and I am hoping that all the skills that I obtain during college will help me to exceed. After being at a crossroad with work and wanting a change in career paths I applied to BMCC. I can’t wait to learn so much from this class as well as my other classes this first year at BMCC.
Hello Jennings, Human Services is a great major when you’re want to help others. In my first year I choose Human Service as well as my major but switched to criminal justice. Are you going to continue your education after you obtain job in that field? And in what way do you want to help others?

Hey LaShawn, you are accomplished and so are you kids. As a mom myself its so amazing to see your kids grow and become great human beings. Your introduction is uplifting and encouraging, going back to school to obtain another degree is not easy working a full time job so you are amazing for this journey.
Hello, Lashawn I appreciate you coming back and attempting to get your degree. Many people I know would simply give up and not even try to go back. I’m happy for you.
Hey LaShawn, I am truly inspired by your desire to keep pushing forward. It is clear to me you have a lot of responsibility on your shoulders and even after all of it you still have the courage to reach a higher level of yourself. Best of luck!
Good Day fellow classmates and Professor, my name is Nicole Sobers and I am a part time Criminal Justice student at my second year at BMCC. Currently I am a full time employee at New York City Transit security department (MTA) and I do Ubereats sometimes for some extra cash. After BMCC, I would like to continue my education and pursue my Bachelors degree in criminal justice cyber security. The idea that motivates me is that the little wins matter just as much as the big wins. I am also a full time mother to a twelve year old boy who I spend the rest of my time with and I enjoy watching him play on his basketball team, watching tv series, and just watching him grow, he is definitely an amazing kid. I would like to get into hobbies of my own like dancing classed, yoga classes, and roller skating, but with my busy schedule its hard to map out time, so the goal is to take sometime for myself to enjoy the things I’ve always enjoyed doing.
Hello Everyone,
My name is Ursula. I am an international student from Poland. I moved to New York two years ago to pursue my dreams and education. It is currently my final semester at BMCC and I will be transferring to Columbia University for the spring 2023 semester. My current major is business administration, however, during this long way I have discovered a new passion for economics and finance. Luckily enough the school I am transferring to has a major combining both of them: financial economics. In my free time, I enjoy taking pictures and visiting art exhibitions. Photography is my free time “killer” that I have been passionate about since my early teenage years. I am looking forward to this semester and new learning opportunities with this class!
Hello Ursula I’m jordyn and I’ve never lived anywhere besides the Bronx. What was it like adapting to New York’s weather from Poland ? How did you mentally adapt ?
You have a wonderful name. Congratulations on your transfer.
Hey all, my name is Jordi Rosario. I am majoring in psychology with a dream of joining the NYPD. I’ve always had aspirations of becoming an officer and once I reach that goal, I will take great pride in it. This is my first semester back as a student at BMCC since spring 2020, when COVID-19 first impacted the world. I’m excited for the opportunity to be back this semester. It’s time to work hard.
Hey, did you take the NYPD test as of yet? They are hiring like crazy because many officers are leaving even if you haven’t finished with getting college credit, it would be good just to take the test to hold your spot.
Hello, my name is Oumy Cisse. Im currently majoring in criminal justice, I was instantly fascinated by this career due to a little solving the mystery games we play home. I have a lot of ambitions and hope that I can fulfill them all. Im from the Bronx. Its kind of rough out there but I love it because its my home, we just need a little more structure and I hope ill be able to provide that for my community.
