Hello class,

On the exam instructions, I specifically noted that you must submit your exam as a Microsoft Word document (.doc).

As I grade the exams, a number of students have submitted their exams as PDF documents. Why, I cannot understand.

Here’s the important part: ANY EXAM THAT IS NOT IN .DOC (WORD FORMAT) WILL NOT BE GRADED, BECAUSE I CANNOT WRITE ON IT USING MICROSOFT OFFICE 365. AS A RESULT, ANY EXAM IN PDF FORMAT WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT, WHICH MEANS ANYONE SUBMITTING SUCH AN EXAM WILL FAIL THE CLASS.

If you think you submitted your exam in pdf format, now is the time to double-check and re-send me your exam as a Microsoft Word document. Otherwise, you risk failing the course, by receiving a 0 on the first exam.

New modules, plus our quiz have been posted

Hi class,

I have posted our Week 3 assignments. These include two modules and a quiz. Please complete the work in-order. First complete Module 7, then do the quiz, and last, Module 9.

The quiz is the first graded work that you are submitting so far (the other assignments give you credit for completing them, but the quiz will have actual grades). The quiz is also a preview of the types of questions that you will see on the exam.

The exam itself is coming up next, in Week 4. We’re moving fast, but remember, that’s the nature of a 6-week summer course, where we have to compress 4 months of work in 6 weeks.

Clarifications on assignment due dates and grading of submitted work

Hi class,

  1. I recognize that the semester is compressed, and that the discussion boards may require additional time to complete. So, here’s my new take deadlines:
  • The Thursday deadline for discussion boards posts, and the Sunday deadline for response papers is strongly recommended. However, if you need extra time to complete this work, you can definitely submit your work after those deadlines. I will do my best to catch those for grading purposes, but given that there’s a lot I have to glance and read, posts and uploads made after the deadlines run the risk of being missed by me for grading purposes – I will obviously do my very best not to miss anyone’s work for grading purposes, but please try to submit your work by the respective deadline, as much as possible.

2. In terms of grading discussion posts and reading responses. Completed discussion board posts and submitted response papers will receive full credit (represented as 100% in the Grade Center on Blackboard, for each assignment submitted). If you see a 0 for any assignment, that means I have seen it as of yet. If I feel you need to redo an assignment to get credit for it, I’ll write you an email, letting you know…

How to submit your response papers

Hi class,

I have noticed that some of the submitted Response Papers #2, have no names on them. If I don’t know who wrote the paper, I can’t give you credit for writing it.

This is very important: if you think you forgot to write your name on your response paper, double-check the paper you have on your computer. If it does not contain your name, re-upload, otherwise you won’t get credit for it.

On Late Submissions

Hi class,

Just a note on work that is submitted late. Discussion board posts and reading responses that have been submitted after their respective deadlines (Thursdays and Sundays) will not receive credit.

Please understand that this policy is made for two reasons:

  1. Everyone in the class should have the same amount of time for graded work, this is a basic principle of fairness in academic work.
  2. It is logistically unreasonable for me to be constantly keeping track of submissions beyond the deadlines.

Please keep this policy in mind as we go through the semester.

As we go forward with our short semester, I will make such announcements every time new assignments are posted, and whenever quizzes and exams are coming up – along with any other important class-related matters.

2. When you upload your response papers, please make sure you papers contain your name, otherwise I won’t be able to give you credit, since I won’t know who wrote the paper.

3. Starting Fridays every week, you’ll see credit entered for the work you’ve done on discussion forums and reading responses. You can check your grades by visiting the class Grade Center on Blackboard.
