The statistic that made the biggest impression on me was that the top 1% in the US owns more wealth than the bottom 90% combined. What stood out to me is how insane that gap is, because it shows that wealth isn’t just uneven its actually concentrated in the hands of very few individuales. It made me realize that hard work alone cannot explain these differences since too many people are struggling while a tiny group controls most resources. This level of inequality makes it hard to justify a society that claims to be for opportunity and fairness.

Living in a society with such huge wealth inequality can lead to major problems, this includes limited social mobility, political inequality, and frustration among working class people. When wealth is concentrated at the top they have more influence over the government including politics, education, and housing, while others struggle just to get by. You can see this in everyday life through things like rising rent, student debt, and people working multiple jobs but still not being able to afford basic needs. At the same time luxury housing and extreme wealth exist right next to poverty in many cities. This gap affects how people experience society and can increase social tension and distrust in institutions.
