  1. We can tell the difference between just and unjust laws by a just law is legal and falls under moral laws as well it inspires human personality. While unjust laws are out of line with moral laws and devalues human personality.
  2. In my view yes this is an important distinction. Yes I believe it makes a difference in the way someone lives their life. It can affect politics because other people might get influenced and start to follow in their footsteps. It could be a good thing but it can also influence people to do mischief.
  3. An just law example is laws mandating accessible options for people with disabilities to vote. This is a just law by making sure everyone can equally participate no matter the circumstances of the person wanting to vote. An example of an unjust law is cash bail that requires people to pay large amounts of money to be released. This is unjust because it can make people not do the time if they’ve committed a very serious crime, they’ll just pay the money to get out.

  1. The supreme court decided in the Wal-Mart case that women could not sue walmart for employment discrimination as a group. They justify their decision by stating the plaintiffs did not have enough in common to constitute.

db 11.1

  1. The court system is better suited to protect the individual than are the elected branches of government because they don’t have to please many people, they’re only protecting the individual. They are making decisions based on the case not by people’s opinions. An example is the supreme court justices are not influenced by the public.
  2.  I agree they are because the judges are elected by people and sometimes they make decisions that go against the majority of people’s opinions. I believe they choose judges this way so they don’t have to face judgment against the public.

  3. When someone says “im taking the fifth” it means they rather not say anything or remain quiet.

  1. Citizens vote for who they want their representatives to be on the federal degree. On the confederation degree citizens have more power because the confederation is made up of local governments. The unitary systems of the citizens just leave everything up to the government.
  2. I understand the division of power by who makes the law is the legislative branch, the people who enforce the law are the executive branch, and the judicial branch interprets the law.
  3. The federal government shapes the actions and local government by mandating things or rules. Like during Covid-19 pandemic they mandated we wear masks outside, stay 6 feet apart to prevent the spread. As well as we all went into quarantine they didn’t want people outside. That also goes for the covid vaccine they said will prevent catching it. They made it where they would give 100 dollars if you got the vaccine. So it persuaded people to get it.

  1. A concept that reminds me of a faction is religion. Groups of people who have different beliefs in their religion.
  2. According to Federalist the source of wealth is “the most common and durable source of faction has been the various and unequal distribution of property” A factor That explains why some people don’t get to possess wealth by owning a private property because they don’t have the funds to do so such as wealthier people. As well as the middle and lower social class don’t get the same privileges that the upper social class do. They are treated very differently because of their income.
  3. Yes I somewhat agree what this explanation of wealth and poverty
  4. “It is to protect and promote u.s security, prosperity and all democratic values and shape an international environment in which all Americans can thrive ” It does surprise me because I don’t really see this being enforced as much as it should be in certain situations. Which is very unfair to those people who have experienced it and are still experiencing it till this day.
  5. I’m not exactly sure why (I had some trouble on this question)

db 6.1

  1. The social class that wrote the constitution is middle class. They could declare war and peace as well as coining money. The class that was excluded and not allowed to participate in this process was the lower class. They worked for the higher and middle class making money doing so.
  2. I would say the social class structure of the early United States is different than ours today because there were more factors to it before it was based on things like land. Now there factors that contribute to it like how much wealth you have, what kind of education you have as well as your occupation.
  3. The people who wrote the constitution were afraid because they were scared of people having more power over them.

  1. The distinction that the reading 4.3 makes between owners and employees is that owners and employees are placed into 2 different categories. They both are different jobs when it comes to things. Owners have more responsibilities, they own things, they make the rules, they tell their employers what to do. While employed they have to follow instructions and do as they are told to get paid. Owners get paid for having their employees do the labor for their company.
  2. Adam Smith’s quote on pg. 28 is “The division of labor occasions a proportionate increase of the productive powers of labor,” it shows his beliefs when it comes to labor.
  3. My thoughts of class is not an identity because people in the same social class can have different identities just because they are all in the same class doesn’t mean they are all the same. Everyone is different in their own ways. If everyone was the same there wouldn’t be as many things as different social class groups. So I agree that social class is not an identity

  1. The similarities in the way social discussed in the reading 4.1 and 4.2 is that they talk about all the social class levels. Which are upper, middle and low class levels. The reading was explaining what each of these levels were. The differences between the readings are the different kinds of education levels that these social classes have.
  2. The station near me is the J train using the concept from reading 4.1 the social class that tends to live in my neighborhood are lower and middle class. I am not surprised by this answer, I’ve been pretty aware the majority of my life where I stood amongst other people. I believe it is an accurate representation of the people living in my neighborhood, if other people were to come to my neighborhood and take a minute to look around they’ll see it too.
  3. Based on the reading, the general pattern about social class is that all the rich people are categorized in high class and the unfortunate people are categorized in lower class.
