To be completed by Thursday, June 9.

Watch the video below, in which Robin DeRosa and Rajiv Jhangiani introduce the idea of open pedagogy. The video is about one hour in length. The first three minutes are an introduction to the webinar series; you can fast forward to 3:12 if you would like to skip that part.

In the comments section below, respond to the following:

  • What interests or excites you about open pedagogy? What, if anything, do you find confusing or challenging?
  • How would you describe open pedagogy to a colleague who has never heard of it?

Our classes need to be evolving to adjust to changes. Otherwise, we are bound to be extinct in the way we teach. Open pedagogy is an excellent way to customize your course to be in tune with current interest. It is way to have students involved in the development of your course to capture their interests.
In my opinion, open pedagogy is applicable to certain fields and material available for such. The way to explain open pedagogy to a colleague, is “you are teaching your students how to learn. Your role is just a facilitator. Both, you and your students are learning.“

I’m excited by the possibilities of open pedagogy, and I look forward to adapting what I learn to my own teaching. I’d explain Open Pedagogy as student-driven learning that allows greater engagement and fun in the classroom.
