This place (Where I am From) – Nicholas Westemeyer

Where I am from …this place.

This place is small and bright.

This place is warm on cold days.

The smell of dinner moving through the house

The sound of conversation after long days of work

This place filled with stories.

Children run outside,

Games are played,

Friends are made,

They happen long after the sun goes down.

This place , this world wrapped in love and laughter

A place frozen in time in my memory

This place where I am from.

I left there for some place new.

I left there for some place large.

This place.

This place can be cold but bright,

Lonely but full of people,

This place full of dreams,

I grow here,

plant roots here,

Plant roots deep into its ground

But in those quite moments I yearn for where I am from.

For Bright, blue, never ending sky,

For the warmth,

For something simpler and unchanging.

I return now to this place.

I return to where I am from.

I am older now changed and shaped by the world me.
By years spent in the big, cold, bright, lonely, place where I chased dreams.

I return to the place of Bright, big, blue, never ending skies

Hot summers and cold winters

Where people walk slow and take their time.

I am father now
and I bring my son here to this place where I am from.

This place has changed but stayed the same

This place where I am from
My memories and childhood things now belong to him.

The same love, laughter, and stories fill this place

He smiles and laughs.

This place is small and bright

This place is warm on cold days

This place is now his

The love, the laughter, the stories

He smiles and laughs

I am safe here. My son is safe here.

Time and life slows here

It is beautiful.
