Hi afternoon folks,
Thanks for the extremely engaging discussion today about your challenging classroom experiences. While there are of course no quick solutions to many of the situations you described, here is the Community Agreement resources from Intergroup Dialogue Project at Cornell, which we think offer an important way of thinking about classroom dynamics through the lens of accountability and up-front communication.
Next, I want to circle back to those Kingsborough Community College criminal justice syllabi that jean shared with us a while back. While they don’t explicitly model community agreements, they set expectations in an up-front and realistic way, including expectations of oneself (the instructor). Here they are:
Criminal Justice: Minorities in Criminal Justice (CRJ 7200)
U.S. Judiciary Syllabus: True True Crime Zines
We encourage you to take a quick look at these syllabi if you haven’t already. See you all next week!
