I’m from a place
I couldn’t wait
to get away from
halfway down the hill
on Long View Drive
From my front yard I could see
the western highlands
Not very high
Exposed bedrock formed hundreds of millions of years ago
and younger volcanic rock
all smoothed over in the last ice age
Woods grow there now
The sun sets far beyond them
I loved speeding on my bike
down the hill
toward that view
at twilight

Great imagery, very moving.
The scope of time in this is really moving, especially set against the smallness of a young person on a bicycle, racing away.
