Since many students do not read the syllabus based on the questions they ask, the syllabus should be referred to as the road map of the course. This should be mentioned as much as possible so students understand that it has the directions that they need to complete the course. The more I state this in classes, the more the students seem to be referring to the course syllabus to guide them through the course. I also let them know that they can reach out to me if they need clarification or help on any issues. This seems to to helping them to understand that they need to review the syllabus.
To make sure that any directions in assignments, projects, exams are crystal clear when reviewed by the student.

I have given an extra credit quiz on the syllabus in the past, but this fall, i think I will make it a group activity and maybe make it into a contest or something along those lines. I feel like that will be a great way to make sure the students understand what is required of them, but not make it seem like rules.
I always show memes, and will continue to do so, as well as adding anymore that I find.
