It’s my honor to be able to pay forward my tech sector talents and experiences to BMCC-CUNY students as an Adjunct Lecturer. I teach MAR 300 Sales Principles and Practices (w/ Salesforce).
——
As is the case for many of you the past 3 years (technically 2.5 since 2022 is still in the making) have been transformational.
Little did I know that my first semester as an Adjunct at BMCC (preparing students to enter the various arenas of work that I occupy and have navigated in the past) would gift me with a unique lens with which to temper so much of the heartache and heartbreak that I, and everyone around me, have had ample supply of.
6 months prior I had big dreams for this course, and a big sense of responsibility to do well by the honor of the invitation to contribute to the body of work offered by so many excellent tenured and other adjunct faculty.
The reality check of my first academic year though was to ‘slow my roll’ and pace my own growth. It was best to target incremental improvements as I found structures, rhythms, plus routines that worked; and while I learned the in’s and out’s of navigating the institution of BMCC on behalf of my students or myself; rather than burn out in attempting to realize my full vision for the course all at once.
SO…NOW, I’m super excited to put the rubber to the road for this first crucial aspect of the big dreams I’ve had for this class. I’m ready to shake off my textbook dependency and see how this step it nourishes and nurtures the other aspects of the dreams I’ve been holding for the impact that this class is capable of making, and especially how that impact gets made.
The other gifts of these past 3 years:
*Completion of a Mindfulness Teacher Training Certification via Tibet House in cooperation with Dharma Moon.
* a lot of luck and grace – cultivated from years prior – to serve as an experienced professional within and the Salesforce Ecosystem as a Business Analyst and Salesforce Administrator.
* an unexpectedly surfaced or found community of like-focused and accomplished cohort of supporters who help me test, adjust, lower or raise expectations of myself, the systems at play, and what I believe is possible for my students.
* The opportunity to be here, now. If you’ve read this far, THANK YOU for your curiosity! 🙂
