Week 7: 3/14 + 3/16

This week we are wrapping up the Responsive Site and starting our Eleventy Site.

Monday 3/14

Today we are going to start to talk about our Eleventy Site projects. This class we will start on what Eleventy is and use a basic starter template. In future classes we will cover the project requirements, due date etc.

Notes

I’m currently taking a class on effective teaching practices and as part of it they discussed ways in which teachers can support students in effective note taking. I realized that I haven’t been doing that so today, as we start a new part of the course, I’m going to try a technique.

Why Take Notes

We will go over this presentation by ACUE on why note taking is important.

Eleventy Skeletal Notes

The purpose of skeletal notes is to give you a structure that shows what’s important and what you’ll need to remember. There is a lot of blank space for you to write your own notes, definitions, links, questions, etc.

We will revisit this document in future classes so make sure to save it online, email it to yourself or in some way save it somewhere you will be able to access it later.

Skeletal Notes File

Eleventy Intro

Today we are going to start to learn about Eleventy, also written 11ty, how it works, why we’re using it an more about static site generators in general.

Save Notes file

Save the notes you’ve been working on. We will add to these more next class and in the coming week.

Work on Responsive Sites

In the last half of the class we will have time for you to work on your Responsive Sites.

Wednesday 3/16

Today we are going to get further into 11ty and give it a spin with Gitpod.

First 11ty site

The best way to learn is to have you create an Eleventy site and start working on it. Here are the steps

  1. Sign in to Github
  2. Click this link to use the base Eleventy Template (view the repo here).
  3. Give the repo you’re making a name like sample Eleventy site, test eleventy etc.
    1. You can use this template again when creating your Eleventy Project.
  4. Go to Gitpod
  5. Open the repository you just made.

We will walk through changing and using this in class.

Converting HTML to Eleventy

We will start to talk about this using the Miro Below
