Among us Customs

I started out with the draft of the game that I wanted to create, I knew at first that it was going to need a lot of artwork for the character, items, and buttons. Each of them needed their own artwork, so the player can tell which button goes with what.

This is the background, where the among us characters will be on the “left” and the buttons and menu will be on the “right”. Like how it’s shown in the drafts.

These were all the customs among us players. So the player can choose what one they wanted.

These were the different menu buttons, I was going to add death animations but it was too difficult to animate or try to get it to work a certain way. So I just dropped it.

All the colors in the color menu button.

All buttons in the hat menu.

All buttons that are in the accessories menu.

All weapons.

All pets.

Here’s a little gameplay!!

Here’s how it looks with different items on and the background altogether. It took a really long time to draw out all the buttons and icons but I am overall really happy with the result!

I didn’t really have any attachment with the original game of Among us, it was a fun game to play overall, and seeing other streamers play it. Personally, it wasn’t my favorite game but I still liked creating a more in-depth customization game on Among Us.

My game is called Among Us Customs

Character Design

Eljay Morrison – Character Design

I like the character designs that are simple yet very readable and distinct. each of these characters in my reference sheet has a distinct and identifiable silhouette that most people can identify. by using simple shapes and a distinct palette I attempted to do the same.

Also, cloaks are cool!

Kenneth Ruiz – Character Design

In the final design, I decided to give it a cannon not only to give it more functionality but also as a way to sell the aggressiveness. I would’ve added a few more features, but I figured that in this case, simplicity would help me a lot more in the long run.

Paris La Infierno Character Design

My biggest source of inspiration is the Chimera from greek myth, especially the depiction of it in the God of War franchise. I’ve always appreciated designs that are a combination of different creatures.

Avatar: The Last Airbender also had creatures that were a mishmash, which was always cool to see.

Another class I am currently taking had me design a creature of this sort as well, which I also thought to utilize for this game, but decided against it because I wanted to try something else, although these sketches for that did aid me in this design.

These are my sketches of the chimera, I already had a specific design in mind so mainly focused on proportions. I also experimented with it in a style I often do with white paint on black background, which forces me to keep shading in mind, and although I didn’t complete the form I feel comfortable in translating it into 2D animation.
