User Testing+Feedback

Some trial and error in implementing the changes but looks like we made some headway. Thank you all for providing some generous feedback. Hopefully this time around the changes will provide a solid experience.

Everything still feels bare bones since there’s not much variation in regards to the tiles themselves. Might have to build another set with a lighter tone for contrast. But for now I’m just putting my attention on polishing the technical aspects of the project making sure buttons that are pressed do their intended functions and take the player where they need to go and what not. I also added a gamepad controller set up as hinted in the instructions screenshot so I’m hoping to test it out both windows and mac.

“Gun Bunny” Assets + Initial Level Design

Initial Game play

After the previous feedback and just some general observations I made during class. I decided to scrap the original material in favor of new sprites with a more cohesive theme/style. I based it on the central idea of: “Cute, simple and to the point.” To that end the hope is that when one looks at the game at first glance, they know what to expect and that it visually makes sense to the player. I also want it to generate some reaction and dispel any confusion or questions in regard to the game’s direction.

Enemy/Moving Obstacle

Not really satisfied with the result but it’ll do for now since I cant afford to back track. At least its somewhat moving/dancing so its a start.

Sprite sheet + Screenshot

This took quite some time over the past couple of days but I’m excited to finally see the results in engine. I learned some valuable knowledge while working on these sprites (I guess thats how its like when starting out in animation you only learn fire is hot AFTER you get burned not before :I ) For example, duplicate frames only when you’ve established all your poses and ready to avoid backtracking. Unfortunately, I did not pick up on that when I first started working on the idle animation. I was adding details back and forth to the point I messed up consistency in each frame and had to redraw or delete a few frames. (Wasted a whole day doing that) But by the time I was half way finished with the jump animation I learned to avoid that by preparing my key frames first and avoid wasting time.
