MMP 270: Introduction to Video Game Design
BMCC Fall 2021
My portal is inspired by the Door of Durin from The Lord of The Rings. It looks nowhere close, but I thought of it when creating my portal.
Instead of a regular flag, I thought it would be good to change it with something cuter.
I’ve created a lake sunset scenery.
I created a tree, cattail, and two cute rocks for the scenery.
Ellie is a secondary character in my game and accompanies Fungi in her journey.
I’ve created a scene manager that communicates with the player and the UI.
My obstacles are pigs, a poisonous flower, a tree trunk, and a pumpkin. I came up with the idea of a pumpkin because Fungi is allergic to pumpkins. For the demonstration, I chose to leave just the flower.
Since my character is a mushroom, I thought it would be good to make a rotten apple as a reward. In the beginning, I thought about making the reward some fertilized soil, but the apple seemed to be a better idea from a design perspective.
I wanted to stick with the idea of the heart representing an extra life just because it’s cute.
I added the tiles that can be used as a 2D platformer with basic tiles and the file set for a simple 2D platformer.
The tiles represent a lavender field.
I added the spreadsheet to see the differences. The first one looks similar to the one underneath because it’s jumping.
