For my final project I chose to build upon the soundscape idea I had went with for the audio project back in September, which put you in an immersive auditory environment—a POV-type experience, so to speak. This time there are three soundscapes of distinct variety, coupled with visuals created in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. All of these were then put together and showcased on an HTML site written via Replit, which you can check out here.
The three environments I had chosen were a cyberpunk city, a serene forest and a lively bar. I had deliberately chosen these three as I believe they each have great potential in finding suitable sound effects to incorporate in a soundscape, such as rivers, construction machinery and jazz musicians (working out which sounds belong to which environments should be easy, as per the intended goal). Just like the original audio project, the process of compiling all of the sounds to form a coherent, immersive experience was time consuming but gratifying all the same. Finding source material to use for the accompanying visuals was similarly time consuming but unfortunately not as enjoyable to make—I accredit this to my lack of ideas in the visual aspect of this project, which is more auditory-oriented. Lastly, HTML coding is the area I have the least experience in by a considerable margin. Luckily I had my work from the web design project to work off of as a template, so putting the website together for the final project was not too difficult.
In retrospect, there were most definitely a few aspects of my final project that could have used better execution, primarily the accompanying visuals, but overall I am satisfied with the end result. I hope others will be able to immerse themselves in these soundscapes as deeply as I did when making them.
