DESPIERTA JIBARA is inspired by my first family trip to Puerto Rico. As a Nuyorican it’s a very
humbling/exciting experience. I wanted to show what a morning is like since we’re staying at a house by the beach. I even included my actual grandmother who wakes me up just as you hear. Some of the audio heard is from my actual trip here. I used salsa for background sounds, since it’s relatable to many Latino households as the first sound in the morning. The music stops during the bathroom/walking on sand scenes to express my moment of practicing mindfulness during the day. The salsa picks up once I tune back into enjoying the surroundings of nature as well as my drink.
