KeymasterBriefly introduce yourself
Be sure to tell us what name or nickname you prefer to be called.
Include your major and some other tidbit about yourself.
Also, please tell us all your favorite film (don’t stress you can have a different favorite film tomorrow) and briefly mention WHY you like it.
PLEASE attach a short clip or a still from your favorite film (it will be good practice for the rest of the semester). (If you are any major in the Media Arts and Technology Program or a CS major it MUST be a clip) well really it must be for everyone…
IN THIS POST YOU MUST ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS CLASS AS DESCRIBED ON THE HOMEPAGE.
You will only be enrolled once this has been submitted and includes the above acknowledgement.
Attach a link to your certificate (if you have trouble with this, state the date you were awarded the certificate) for completing the school’s on line learning orientation as well. It is mandatory that you complete this. If you have completed it for a previous class simply state the class.
EVERY DB REQUIRES AT LEAST ONE RESPONSE TO ANOTHER STUDENT’S POST
FINALLY, ONCE I REPLY TO YOUR POST — YOU MUST RESPOND TO MY REPLY… WHEN I WRITE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK… I MEAN IT… LET ME KNOW…
You can check out my example below – notice I cover everything and I was able to attach both a clip and a still photo (not just the link). My expectation is that you are as tech literate as I 🙂
To recap make sure you have included all 8 items including a response to a peer
- Prepare to complete this post by
- Reading the homepage
- Watching the intro lecture (same as on homepage)
- Completing the online orientation if you have not already done so
- Post your name, major, (and a interesting tidbit ideally)
- Tell us your favorite movie and explain why you like it
- Include a clip (if you are CS or Multimedia major you should know how to get the clip to show) otherwise at least a link if you can’t find a clip use a different film — and please avoid trailers — a clip from the film
- Acknowledge that you have read the requirements for the class and understand them and have already contacted me if you do not.
- Include the date you received your online certificate (or if you have taken it for a previous class, list the name of the class)
- Respond to a fellow student
- Respond to any comments the Professor made on your post – this is the post that the professor posts in response to your post, not the Strangelove post – although you are welcome to respond to that as well if you like.
- Respond to the professor’s reaction to your post. When I say “let me know what you think,” I mean RESPOND to this comment! 🙂
Final rule: NO REPEATS — if someone has already posted their favorite film and it is the same as yours, you must go to your second favorite film (and on down the list) until your choice is unique
Here is a rubric for this assignment

Sam Sloves
KeymasterHello. I’m Professor Sloves. If you email me, I prefer that you use Prof, Professor, Prof Sloves. or Professor Sam Sloves – if you are not into the whole brevity thing.
I earned a Bachelor’s in Physics and Master’s in Film. I attended UCSB (Go Gouchos!) USC and Columbia University. I have produced a couple of low budget features and written several (unproduced) screenplays. In addition to my passion for film, I surf, ski and outrigger canoe.
My favorite film today is Dr. Strangelove. The satire is both biting and uncannily prescient notwithstanding it is half a century old. The clip below uses a fluid camera and blocking to capture both the enormity of the meeting and yet give the viewer an intimate glimpse into the characters and their conversations.
As I wrote the requirements for this class, I am well aware of how much work must be compressed into these few weeks.
A little something from Dr. Strangelove.

KeymasterHello everyone,
My name is Mohammad and I will be your SI for the class. I graduated from the Video Arts and Technology program not too long ago and I previously took the class, so just know, that I also understand the amount of time and work this requires. I am here to help you all with any questions or concerns relating to the class. I will be present on here and Blackboard.
Please email me at mochowdhury@bmcc.cuny.edu and if that doesn’t work then try MChowd21@gmail.com.
For this semester, I am picking my favorite movie from my favorite director, Starman by John Carpenter. While most people will say The Thing, Halloween, They Live, and so-and-so, I genuinely think this movie is his best because he gets to showcase a more optimistic and romantic side. It’s still a Carpenter movie, but if anything, he gets to subvert things and ideas he’s did before this. I only saw it for the first time last year, but I knew by the end of it, that it was an immediate favorite. The movie is about an alien who comes to Earth, takes the form of a young widow’s husband, and asks for her help in driving him from Wisconsin to Arizona so that he can get back home as the government races behind them.
I’m also using this film to praise what I feel is the most underappreciated thing of the film, which is Karen Allen’s performance as the young widow, Jenny. Jeff Bridges as Starman is good too, but I think she’s really carrying the whole movie because you do experience the romance, suspense, adventure through her tender and challenging performance. I could talk about this movie more, but I will leave it at that.
I am attaching one of my favorite scenes from the movie which I think really displays what I have mentioned:
