Registering for an Internship (MEA 371)

In order to graduate in all MEA majors (Animation, Multimedia Programming and Design and Video Arts and Technology) you must either complete one of two courses: MEA 371 Media Arts and Technology Internship or MEA 201 Professional Development and Career Planning in Media Arts and Technology .

Completing an internship is an excellent way to get your foot in the door, make contacts, understand what’s required of professionals in your field and help you figure out what kind of job you want.

This page helps you understand how to register for the class.

Unlike most classes you can’t register for MEA 371 on CUNYfirst. There is a process that you need to complete. The reason we have this process is to help make sure that you understand what will be required of the internship class and that you’re prepared for it.

1 Claim Your Account on Career Express

Visit this page https://bmcc-cuny-csm.symplicity.com/students/?signin_tab=0

There are instructions on the page for how to claim your account.

There are some last minute sessions the week class starts. If you want to take MEA 371 and have not yet attended a workshop you MUST attend.

You only need to attend ONE of the sessions below.

Student Internship Advisement and Registration Sessions

What you will learn

You will learn how an academic internship can advance your creative and professional growth. The session will also cover the educational framework and requirements for experiential learning and how to apply to register to earn academic credit for it through Career Express.

In addition, you will learn how to find an internship, what the internship learning experience is all about, and how to make the most of an internship to inform your professional and academic experience.

Remember to claim your Career Express account and complete the Experiential Learning Application before attending the Zoom session (Steps 1 and 2 above).

4. Follow-up after the workshop

You may be asked to complete more information on Career Express, or create a resume, work on a portfolio etc. Following up with this information is important to help you be prepared and get registered. You can ask for help from Alex Vasquez from the MEA Department, alvasquez@bmcc.cuny.edu.

5. The Office of Internships and Experiential Learning will register you for the class when they approve your application

Remember that you can’t register for MEA 371 on CUNYfirst. You are registered by Internships and Experiential Learning.
