MW Final blog post 2

Definitely didn’t get to everything I wanted, all thanks to a windows update deleting my scene file and setting me back quite a bit (thankfully not from scratch as I was able to recover some thanks to github.)

Otherwise I was able to complete a main lobby room, two extra areas/rooms, a slightly hidden bowling ball, and a secret exit leading to the balcony.

VR Dev Log#2

For my VR project, I created a dark woods environment with ruins for exploration. The scene aims to create curiosity and immerse players in a mysterious atmosphere. At the start of the game, players find themselves in the woods facing a small ruins structure. They can pick up a torch to illuminate their surroundings.

This project was an enjoyable experiment. I used Blender to create the scene, which I then exported to Godot. Unlike my previous AR project, there was something special about walking around a scene I built from scratch. I particularly enjoyed placing models and recreating visual effects and atmosphere in Godot, including adding particle effects to create realistic fire for the torches. While the gameplay mainly involved picking up a torch and exploring, immersing myself in my own creation was truly rewarding.

I’m satisfied with what I’ve learned, created, and experimented with in this project. There are aspects I’d like to further explore and expand upon in my final project. For example, I aim to make it larger, delve into using textures and sounds, and bring more life to the environment.

I’ve decided that I want to expand on my VR project for my final. The three main things I want to expand on is to:

  • Create more rooms for the player to explore, including darker rooms where the player needs to use the flashlight to navigate.
  • Create secret objects that the player can find, rewarding exploration.
  • Maybe create a “goal” in which the player finds an exit onto the outside balcony.

Specifically I’ll probably overall shoot for one hallway and three rooms, two hidden objects, and a hidden yet still easy to get to exit. That will be my set goals for the next two weeks and if I’m able to shoot for more that would be awesome.

I’ve created a space office scene that mostly acts as a small physics sandbox area. The main goal of the scene is to just mess around with physics objects, whether that be bowling with an exercise ball and bottles or creating a stack of tables to reach the roof.

I would overall like to have more rooms, but for now cutting it off at a simple balcony is more feasible in getting this done in time (maybe I’ll choose this to expand it as my final, we’ll see.)

For mine VR project i plan to create a outdoor scene with snow flakes falling down and trees also with little small house. I will be using windy sounds. I have some picture to show want i am doing..

For my VR Project, I plan to create a calming outdoor scene with cherry blossom trees and nature sounds. I have included some pictures I’m using as inspiration:

AR Project Process Dev Log

I created a night time mountain scene on Procreate and separated the elements that would overlap with layers. Once it was ready, I exported each layer as its own image with a transparent background onto Google Drive.

I downloaded the images to my computer from Google Drive and added them to the project’s textures folder. I then added them to the Godot project as textures on plane meshes layering them on top of each other to create a 3D effect.

Once each layer was added, I exported the project as a .glb file and uploaded it to the Replit marker template, and edited the coding accordingly.

After the 1st test I had to go back and edit some things on Godot, as the model did not load properly. After the issue was fixed I re-uploaded it to Replit and it was done.
