Instructor

I am Professor Mingla and I graduated from Tirana University (International University, Albania) in 1984/ College of Natural Sciences, specializing in Mathematics. I worked for many years in many schools and positions until I came to the United States of America. Once I came here in 2005, I continued studies at Mercy College here in New York for a Masters in Science in Mathematics Education. In 2011,  I started teaching in many Colleges and Universities in New York before joining BMCC in 2016. The experience of teaching different levels of Mathematics and various courses with diverse audiences has given me the strength and compassion to help my students succeed.

My research interests are in the field of STEM applications, logical reasoning and proofs, and scholarship of teaching and learning. I, in collaboration with other colleagues, have been the recipient of a prior Open Gateways Grant to create Open Educational Resources (Cost-Free for CUNY students), STEM applications using active learning strategies, etc.  The role of New York City College of Technology and BMCC have collaborated through the Open Gateways Grant in developing creative campuses. I am interested in design thinking and I’m currently examining how to develop in BMCC students a sense of purpose, belonging, and self-efficacy through curricular and non-curricular activities. The most recent involvements in my professional growth are many webinars, workshops but especially Resilient Teaching  Workshop at BMCC ( resilienteaching@bmcc.cuny.edu) and 2020-2021 NASH ACUE Cohort  (https://acue.instructure.com/). Not only they have enriched my knowledge in terms of online teaching approach, but also they have contributed in many aspects of my quality of teaching.
