Joneses Unit 13

Good day

  • Would you categorize the way the Jones family lives as personal selling? Why or why not?

I think the Jones family used the personal selling technique to their advantage, because they persuasion their customers to thinking they needed something when they might have not, also they did it so well they did not need to pressure their customers into buying it.

  • What similarities do you see between the sales tactics the Jones family employs and the marketing tactics of some of your favorite brands? Give an example.

Some similarities I would say is which Apple uses do they do not necessarily need much advertising but once the latest model of IPHONE comes out, I am surrounded by people who have it and this makes me want those latest features and accessibilities when it comes to having the top of the range.

  • Based on what you read in the course materials and what you observed in this movie, do you think the way products are marketed in this movie is ethical?

I do not think that the way they went about it was ethical because with them having all these latest products this caused their neighbors feeling pressure to do the same even when they did not have the money. If they were transparent that they worked in sales would have led to a different outcome, but they sold a fake narrative.

  • How would you feel if you were friends with someone in the Jones family before you found out their secret? What about afterward?

I would not be friends with anyone in that family, because they not true to who they were firstly and secondly, they did not have the needs of the customer at hand rather than just getting their sales up.

Marketing homework

For the first example, what were the main reasons that the firm reversed their decision and returned to their initial channel mix?

  •  They had to reverse their decision because it did prove to increase sales but at a lower margin.
  •  It could have possibly hurt there brand as they produced low costing jeans so it was smart to revert back to the traditional way.

2- Do you agree with their decision?

  • I agree, brand integrity is important and lowering your cost could really turn away majority of their customers.
  • Having to expand their channels would have hurt them in the long run.

3- In the second example, do you agree with their choice of channel for their new watches? Why?

  • I don’t agree with their choice of channel because even though it might be cheaper to distribute to their existing traditional channels, the overall profit won’t be as much as it would have been if they distributed to convivence stores.

4- Do you think that most of their existing jewelry stores will be willing to stick and sell these new watches?

  • I think that they won’t because in the long run they will see a decrease of there premium watches being sold.

5- What other channels (retailers) should they also consider?

  • For their watches they could consider agents, retailers and wholesalers. This could prove to increase sales not only in their existing jewelry but also the new watches.

Product concept

The pitch that resonated with me was Flasky Flowers and for the reason it being for a specific market wedding. The product is seasonal, and some months sales would be high compared to others, but I do know if this had to go globally to any extend to where this American product reaches the southern hemisphere its potential to bring in sales are just as great. I love weddings and I see brides and grooms loving this since you can have the option of having real flowers or synthetic.

The product concept is a bouquet/flask to fill that special day with some booze or your choice of beverage of cause, this concept fills a market where you do not need to carry both your bouquet and drink but eliminate having to stand around with your drink when you are.

Flasky flowers is entering into the market with a new invention with a twist.

What gap does this product fill? An invention like Flasky flowers has potential to grow because it has the capability to withhold real flowers. On a hot summer day at a wedding and you’re standing at the alter thirsty this might just come handy.

What process does this product make easier? The product is more convenience but B2B this could expand and be bigger with the right team.

Why should consumers not only want this product, but feel like they need it? This concept would depend on many factors one of them is that this becomes a trend and replaces the old way of just having your simple bouquet, but that would be a tough market to penetrate since many people might not see the need for it, since this product is probably not sustainable or able to reuse for other purposes.

This product would best position and branded to consumers that are getting married or parties. That is why packaging and advertising of this product could play a big role in its revenue.

Consumer Decision Making.. Salt Lake

I have decided that on one specific night I would like some Fine dining Italian cuisine. I do like authentic Italian restaurants. Now Pasta, or Lasagna would be my go-to. Since the restaurant Valtersosteria serves one of the best Home-made lasagnas with an amazing special sauce I had too. Picking up my order was not a problem since it was just a couple of blocks down the road from where I was staying. But as I mentioned it was a lovely fine dining restaurant and it was slightly on the pricier side but so worth it.

So, this restaurant was surely not at first my first choice but since I had a longtime friend who lived out in Salt Lake, she herself as a foodie, recommended Valtersoseria out of the 3 Italian restaurants we have been looking at via google reviews within our neighborhood. Knowing that many restaurants within the area had some kind of fusion of Italian and Greek or just pizza, It was not a tough decision since that specific night I felt like having Lasagna.

As for me the consumer decision process was very relatable, I do the same with some of my friends who visit me in South Africa, and I would recommend the top places for them to dine at and have them decide by the desired cuisine they preferably would like to have. I tend to think that we trust our friends’ opinion more than reviews at times when it comes to curtain decision making.

Now what grasp me to this place was that this restaurant had a story behind it like many, but his mark to the establishment was that it had his mother’s recipes and most importantly a sauce she created and he now sharing this with thousands of people each year.

As I mentioned earlier my friend recommended this place, and she knew how much I liked homemade style Italian food and that made me choose Valtersoseria and will here on out recommend.

Emirates Airline social responsibility and Ethics.

Emirates Airline

Emirates’ “Fly Better” means the drive to innovate and be better.
This motto from Emirates has been incorporated into their daily operations to be able to deliver an air experience like no other.

I have traveled with Emirates since 2012 – and each time I fly with them my experience just gets better with each flight. They go above and beyond for their customers and their employees are just the friendliest. What they have been thriving on is having the youngest fleet in the industry. However, they also have a very diverse fleet and cater to passengers around the world.

Emirates has been taking up the social responsibility of making the most eco-friendly investments in their aircrafts by placing the most modern and eco-friendly technology in their planes. Also, on most flights, I have a donation envelope at my seat and any currency is accepted. This goes towards wildlife, environment, and other nonprofit organizations to help children around the world.

The company has found numerous ways which they are able to save fuel and be more efficient. When taking off for example, pilots use idle reverse thrust instead of using full reverse thrust. This means they switch off one engine while taxing. All these measures are put in place to help save fuel emission and cut down on noise.

Onboard long haul flights, Emirates blankets are made from 100% recyclable plastic and each blanket is made with 28 plastic bottles; this is an initiative to prevent plastic waste ending up in landfills. Emirates is based in Dubai and they practically have sun throughout the year, which gives them the opportunity to use sun energy at their hubs and energy saving products on top of that. Emirates has used 60% less energy electricity consumption each year.

I have some friends working for Emirates and I did some research. Other than being a globally recognized brand, Emirates gives their employees a range of discounted tickets to housing and even an accommodation allowance – but all of this depends on your seniority. So, the growth within the company is slow, based on time and performance. It makes it still very difficult to move up the ranks, which is something that needs to be changed. More of the young should be able to observe and to take on some of the senior position. Ethically, I think this is very old tradition that needs to change within business, since all seniors are seen as more capable or educated – the young should be more involved in these changes so the company can grow with the times.
