Flipbook

For our first assignment, we were tasked with creating at least 30 frames of a simple animation in the style of a flipbook.

I decided to draw an individual on the train the day. He was fast asleep, and as I was sketching him in my notebook, he opened his eyes and flared his nose. I was interested in visually describing the nuances of his face and the color of his hyper hyperpigmentation.

After making initial sketches for each step of the eye opening (closed, super closed, sort of open, half open, entirely open) and for the nose flare (regular, kind of flared, super flared,) it was extremely easy, streamlined, and mechanical to trace each sketch and make minor differences. I found it helpful to keep a sketch all in pencil that I could  reference and make minor changes to.

I don’t feel satisfied with the level of detail, lack of color, or the amount of frames.
