Our Values

Community

  • Trust the people. Trusting others breads trust-full spaces.
  • People are experts on themselves. Everyone knows themselves best, trust them to know this.
  • Lead with curiosity. Ask questions to learn more and allow space for others to share themselves with you.
  •  Celebrate each other. We are a cohort! A team! Celebrating our work is an important part.
  • Everyone deserves to feel welcome and safe.

Learning

  • Design multiple pathways for learning. There isn’t one way to learn, consider other possibilities for someone to connect to.
  • You aren’t supposed to  know everything – we are here to support one another. It would be exhausting to try to know everything. It is okay to learn from others. It is courageous to ask for what you do not already know.

Personal Dignity

  • Change is constant. From Author Octavia Butler and repeated by Adrienne Maree Brown – in life, the only constant is change.
  • Messy is okay. It is okay to be where you are, express ideas/thoughts before fully formed. It is okay to have off days or not be perfect.
  • Hope is a discipline. From a Mariame Kaba quote – hope is a practice, something to work towards and maintain.
  •  Rest isn’t earned; you deserve rest because you are alive. Reminder to take care of ourselves in a world that values self-sacrifice as definition of success.
  • Feelings are for feeling. We get so caught up in the logistical to do lists of school we may forget to make time to be in our bodies or feel or connect.
  • There is nothing wrong with you. When we feel overwhelmed it is information of a need not met, not a message to do more.
  • Everyone deserves joy — everyone deserves to have their needs met. Having needs does not make you “needy”!
