Recommendations for Early Childhood Educator

In this article it talks about things that we early childhood educators should do. One of the things that was mentioned that we should do as early childhood educators is to have the families and community involved on what’s going with the child at school or about the school in general. In the article it states “Doing this builds on the funds of knowledge that children and families bring as members of their culture” by having the family involved with the Childs learning activities can be very beneficial for both the kid and the family. Not having any type of involvement with the Childs education can cause parents to not be aware on how the child is doing at school and the culture of the child not being understood by teachers on why they behave or do certain things.

Advancing Equity in Early Childhood Education: Looking Internally, Connecting Externally

kids at a young age start to be bullied at school because of their culture, how they look like, how they sound and by many other things. it’s important for parents to be aware of this because bullying can cause kids to have a negative reaction to bullying. In the article it states “Educators have the ability to create environments in which children learn that they are valued by others, learn how to treat others with fairness and respect, and learn how to embrace human differences rather than ignore or fear them.” this quote from the article tells us that educators can help a bit avoiding bullying by helping children learn to value others and to learn that everyone is different by each other. The only way to do so is by learning the Childs culture, which is why its important for the parents to be involved, teachers can only truly learn about their students culture by having the families talk about it and be open about it and truly know their understanding of their kid.

Learning Stories: Observation, Reflection, and Narrative in Early Childhood Education

Many people believe that families or family views don’t affect children’s point of view or behavior, but in the article it states “Learning Stories are based on individual or family narratives, and they recognize the value of Indigenous knowledge.” Learning stories from children are told from their perspective on viewing things at home. kids behave and say things because it what kids see at home or hear at home. teachers don’t know what’s going on and don’t know why they do certain or say certain things. When parents and teachers don’t have communication with each other, it can create a lot of miscommunication’s and it can cause kids to lose opportunities. when immigrant families arrive to a country that they don’t know a language from its harder for them to try to be more involved in their Childs education.

The article states “African American children, on average, score lower on tests and are given lower grades than Asian, White, and Latino students. In adolescence, many of them fail courses and drop out of school.” when kids aren’t supported by teachers or their parents, they start to not do well at school and when parents aren’t aware kids can end up failing classes or they even end up in the wrong steps. kids should be supported by their parents and teachers to be able to pass and have some sort of motivation for school.
