Reading the article and watching the video made me realize that women are at a greater risk of experiencing the capitalist system, which makes it difficult for them to succeed. In my own experience, working in a security guard company as a woman is a bit challenging when it comes to capitalism in the United States. Because The security industry is generally recognised as a male-dominated field, I think the biggest challenge for myself has been working in an industry where older male guards, who have been doing it for decades, are still adapting to the idea of having women working beside them. this often-difficult period as I have personally witnessed their changing attitudes. Once you prove that you are all there to do the same job, and you have the skills to protect yourself and your colleagues. As a woman, I don’t feel successful in the marketplace since it is still a male-dominated field, so I believe that women will have a hard time succeeding at it. However, I believe I have achieved a little bit of success because I worked hard to earn my respect and have more opportunity. Honestly, I don’t know what I want to do with my life, but I think I will be successful if I gain or have the confidence to do the job that makes me happy without feeling as if I am being controlled and forced. It’s clear to me that I can do makeup well and I am good at it, but I don’t have the confidence to do it. I would like to become a makeup artist and an early childhood educator. Feminist economies that don’t exploit anyone would include being fairly equal to everyone and providing equal opportunities for everyone no matter their gender, race, ethnicity, income, or religion. It is also important to have fair and equal wages for all their workers and don’t look at their gender. I think that people should get paid for what they work for. And have the same accessibility as the men have for whatever they want to work at.

I learned what activism is after reading “United in Anger” and seeing the movie. It is when you have a movement for a cause to bring about legal or social change. Making other people listen to you has a lot to do with activism. A group called “Act Up” from the movie “United In Anger” hoped for social change, just like the majority of us want. This group fought for justice on their behalf. People with HIV/AIDS and other serious medical problems are protected under these rights. Some of these patients were unable to pay for their medications or medical care. This organization made a reference in the movie that these individuals deserve help, such as health insurance, as they pass away from this illness. I learned from this movie that activists struggle for what they desire. I’ve also come to see that activism serves everyone in society, regardless of anyone’s personal motivations. This proves to me that there are good people in the world.

Throughout my senior year of high school, I worked at Applebee’s to make ends meet and have money in my pocket to get me through college. Working at Applebees has benefitted me with the amount of money I earned from minimum wage and tips from customers. However, working at Applebees, there were many problems with doing more than the minimum amount of work that I did. For example, I was initially a hostess, and then I was a server and helped pack food in the kitchen at the same time. I was only getting paid minimum wage. Honestly, I’m not sure if it had anything to do with my gender or being a woman. However, I felt speaking up about these issues was pointless since a woman that was managing that place, put me in that position of overworking. Being successful in this type of marketplace is complex. I’ve gained a lot of experience and learned how to work through pressure which is a plus for me. On the contrary, not being paid for what you’ve really worked for doesn’t sound successful. My goal for my career is to finish schooling to become a school counselor. In order to complete this goal, I must complete my associate’s degree and transfer to earn my bachelor’s degree. Then I would need to attend a graduate school for education and earn my degree. I am fairly confident in completing these goals knowing I will put the work in. I understand people’s emotions and find joy in helping other people during their times of need. As a woman, I understand the narratives that float around about not doing well in the workplace merely because of my gender, could make my career path even more difficult. However, I disagree with these ideas of inequality knowing I have to work hard to earn what I want. I wouldn’t need to work harder than men to be successful like them. Instead, I would need to work harder for myself to truly reap the benefits of education to become a master in my career to make an impact on the lives of students. The idea of a feminist economy would contradict the idea of equality. We can’t escape exploitation because people let it happen to them. For example, my failing to own up to my emotions and failing to speak up to my managers about overworking is a result of my lack of confidence and lack of education when it came to labor laws and labor as a whole. Education is what keeps people moving up and forward in life. The lack of education will only leave you out in the open as a weak-minded person. The economy relies on people with an education to earn money for profit, not gender on its own.

Think about your own relationship to capitalism in the United States.
Have you been successful in the market place? Why or why not?
What are your goals for your career? Are you confident you will reach those goals?
Finally, what would a feminist economy look like so that nobody is exploited?
Capitalism is known to be explosive and oppressive we know this because of the relationship that there is in regards to power in between the owner of the factors of production and those who sell their labor. There’s people who get paid less than the wage they are supposed to, matter fact the owners undermine the value contribution that is being made.
What was brought to my attention was that there was gender inequality plaguing the society. Feminism want economic freedom but what not everyone knows is that capitalism promotes individualism over collective action.
I feel like when it comes to marketplace it can be a bit difficult to do everything on your own specially of you don’t know what you’re doing. What is recently seen is that big brands like appropriating an aesthetic of feminism, trying to use the word feminism as a title to get more customers. However, in the supply chain about 350 women were hospitalized because of extreme fatigue from poor working conditions.
My goals for my career are to make connections and that’s what I been hearing constantly to get there, on the top. Whenever I think about it though, it scares me because I question myself in regards of what the steps are to get there besides the connections. With what money? What job would I currently have while trying to make it in the forensic field? Would it be a good paying job that will make me afford all my equipment or would it be a job that is somewhat related to the career?
I must ad it that there are times I feel like I will not be able to reach these goals because the field is very competitive but not only that but there a small percentage of Hispanic females working as a forensic. What concerns me is the connections that people advise me to make now, how would I be able to if the people around me are in the same level as me. The experts won’t allow someone to go to a forensic laboratory unless they have some type of experience or background knowledge, have taken a college forensic class. Apart from being challenged is the competition around me, but remembering what Dalia Gebrial said about “woman not being able to be free until they defeat race oppression and fight class oppression” is something that keeps me humble.

Think about your relationship to capitalism in the United States.
I never really had a relationship with capitalism in the United States because I’ve never worked in this country, but I have noticed that in some workplaces, the difference between how women and men are treated is gradual; usually, the men on the top of the chain and the woman are generally towards the bottom an example is how most movies depict women in the workplace they are usually assistance to the boss. Capitalism has been a significant factor in women’s bodies being objectified and used as labor. For example, Instagram, a part of capitalism, is a false narrative of the “perfect woman.” And this issue makes it so that men judge women if they don’t look a certain way.
What are your goals for your career? Are you confident you will reach those goals?
I have many goals in my career because I don’t just want to do one thing; I want to make sure that I experience all avenues given to me. For example, my first career is becoming a basketball coach, and my goal, if we come up basketball coach, is to become the youngest NBA head coach in the league’s history. Another career I want to get into is filmmaking. To be more precise becoming a YouTuber because ever since I was little, I’ve Loved YouTube, and I’ve always wanted to try it out and see if it works; now it’s the best time for that, so I started like month ago with my friends, and my goal with you to is to entertain people mainly but also if it goes well it is a good paying job. Now the last career that I want to achieve is acting. I like working because it takes you out of your comfort zone and helps you think faster and better. My goal with acting is to say that I had an outstanding performance and whatever job I do.
Finally, what would a feminist economy look like so that nobody is exploited?
A feminist economy that has no exploitation would be that everybody is treated equally no matter what they identify as when it comes to race, gender, and sexual orientation. Still, according to the article, one way for a feminist economy to not be exploited is by fixing the wages they should be the same and the gender pay gap that happens between men and women. One example is the NBA versus WNBA debate that has been going on for years. For example, The average WNBA salary is $100,000, and the average NBA salary is 9 million dollars, so the pay gap between these two professions is huge; enough feminist economy, it should be equal and fair.

Think about your relationship to capitalism in the United States.
It’s been almost 6 years since I came to the united States, I have been working with my mother in her business hair salon since then, and I can tell that it is way better to have your own business in the united States because you will gain so much more, sometimes when she went on vacation I take over the business with my twin’s sister, I never had to opportunities to work other jobs outside of braiding hair, since t I am doing pretty much good working on my own using my skills.
Have you been successful in the marketplace? Why or why not?
I think I am in the middle, I am only working the weekends because I want to focus on school and graduate as soon as possible, but with the job I am doing right now I will be fine working only two days until there’s a holiday and summer time. I am not making any savings since I made a deal with my mother to let me focus on school and I will be working for her on the weekends, but if it wasn’t that it will be pretty fine in the marketplace, braiding is a very hard job and mostly a skilled job but you will gain a lot from it.
What are your goals for your career? Are you confident you will reach those goals?
I always have a mindset of helping people, especially children because they are innocent and sometimes have no way of expressing themselves, some kids need a lot of support and unfortunately, sometimes they can’t get it from their parents but I do believe that a stranger can make their life better and be here for them when they need it the most. I was a very quiet person and get bullied a lot when I was young but there was one teacher that always is here for me, that teacher loved me when he didn’t even have any reason to do so but he will just do all his best that I keep up good grades at school and make sure that I will have lunch every day. That’s the reason that I want to work with children, Some children did not have the same privilege as others but had a very difficult life at an early age, some were not even welcome in their own homes, so it will mean a lot to them having someone who is there for them and who’s ready to do everything just to see them happy or at least have a normal childhood. My dream is to be a positive role model for children, it’s exciting for me to see the joy in children’s eyes whenever they see you or that they get very excited around you which means that they feel safe and welcomed. I am very confident I to archive that goal.
Finally, what would a feminist economy look like so that nobody is exploited?
In a feminist economy where no one would be exploited will when we will all be equal but generalize people as weak and strong, anyone would not get scared to get over the place because of the way they view them.

Think about your relationship to capitalism in the United States.
I don’t think i really have a relationship with capitalism in the United States but when i worked during the summer i noticed how differently they treated us women from the men. They would give the men complicated task while the girls got easier task because they most likely viewed women as being weak while men are strong.
I do see women on social media expressing how historically women have been historically excluded from many economic opportunities due to systemic gender discrimination. In the United States, women have been paid less than men when working the same job, and they are barely any women picked or represented in leadership role positions and high-paying industries. The gender pay gap issue is a huge problem I have been seeing on social media and women protesting for higher wages.
Capitalism has also contributed to the commodification and objectification of women’s bodies and labor. For example, the fashion and beauty industries often use images of idealized women’s bodies to sell products, creating unrealistic beauty standards that can lead to harmful body image issues for women. Additionally, many low-wage industries, such as domestic work and care work, are disproportionately staffed by women, often without job protections or benefits.
What are your goals for your career? Are you confident you will reach those goals?
I’m not sure what I want to do in life but my goal for my career is to do something that makes me happy without feeling as if I’m being controlled and forced to do the job. I’m confident that I will definitely reach my goal if I work hard for what I want in life. My goal is to work for myself so I don’t have to deal with this capitalist relationship in the United States. “Capitalism structurally oppresses, restricts, and inhibits the access of marginalized individuals, minority communities, and differently abled persons by regulating the opportunities available to them.” Many jobs treat their employees badly especially people who work 9-5, teachers, and nurses who are getting paid lower money when they do more for the job. “Capitalism has set up a system of high working hours for low wages for its laborers and has established a pre-set power role between the owner of the factors of production and the individuals who sell their labor” Most jobs overworked their employees but are not increasing their pay.
Finally, what would a feminist economy look like so that nobody is exploited
A feminist economy that’s not exploiting anybody would look like being fairly equal to everyone and “creating equality and a good life for everyone, regardless of their sex, gender, race, ethnicity, education, income, religion, or where they live. Based on reading this text explains how this goal cannot be achieved in capitalism because it’s biased toward women, there are always some achievements or requirements that a woman cannot meet. To ensure that nobody is exploited in a feminist economy, there must be two important principles. One is having fair and equal wages where all workers, regardless of gender, receive fair and equal wages for their work. Eliminating the gender pay gap and addressing other wage discrimination. Worker protection is prioritizing workers’ protection such as giving sick paid leave, parental leave, and workplace safety to make sure workers didn’t get exploited by their employees.

When I think about my own relationship with capitalism in the United States is a bit complicated, I do work as a student. I struggle at times due to the stress of working and being a full time student that at times I sometimes miss homework. I work hard but I haven’t been given opportunities so I had to fight for everything I’ve ever wanted. I want to get my degree so I can be in the business of sonographers and being a 21 year old Hispanic from the Bronx doesn’t really help much. I also feel that if you want to succeed in life at this point like a promotion for example you have to change who you are and suck up to people. In the marketplace I don’t feel as if I have been successful but I also feel as if I have been successful because I am only half way from where I want to be right now in life and achieving what I want. I am in college getting my degree. I work part time at Target so I’m better off than sum people because I’m in college trying to get where I want to be so that’s why I feel I’m in the middle because I’m not succeeding but I’m also not failing i would say. My goal for my career is to finish school which i will be in the summer then i will take a paid course after school allied in health education. I then will get licensed if the state mandates it because I will be moving out of the Bronx so depending where I decide to go I will have to do this. I then will be Taking an ultrasound technician certification exam through a professional organization. I am very confident that I will reach my goals. A feminist economy where nobody is exploited would look like a women and men in equal power getting rid of the gender structure. There would be many women in power owning the largest organizations in the world. There would also be better and equal pay for everyone depending on their work and also free healthcare as well. As well with this new healthcare that would be free for everyone would include free healthcare products like tampons, plan b, sanitary pads, menstrual cups, heated pads and etc for all women. Everyone in this economy will live as they please with control over their own life.

Unfortunately, I cannot decide if I have been successful in the marketplace. On one side I feel I have been. Then again most jobs seem to overwork their employees. It does not matter if it is a retail job or a job in the food industry. The type of job most of the time does not make a difference. I have not always been satisfied with the amount I was getting paid. In the past I have left a job because they were overworking me too much. They did raise my pay when they offered the job, but it still was not enough. People in general are a lot to deal with. I will not go the extra mile if my personal needs are not being met .I often must stop myself from putting so much effort into it because I think to myself, am I getting paid enough for this? However, for my future career I think I will be very successful. I want to be an actor or apart of the behind the scenes. I want to write scripts or direct. I want to costume design or even clean sets. I will take part in anything that allows me to be involved with the play/movie itself. I am willing to start from the ground up. I want to build my resume and make it known that I am a part of every part of the system. From there I can meet new people and move up in my role. Meeting new people will open new opportunities. If I do well that will make people think of me and tell others about me. I can be recommended to other jobs. I feel confident about becoming one of these options because I am actively looking for jobs and auditions. I am doing my part to find a place to start. I will not give up because this is my dream. Now if this were a feminist economy a lot would go different. For example, women will run huge cooperation’s. Women will be CEOs. Women will not be seen just because they are pretty or in a sexual way. We will be seen for our minds and hearts. Women will not be forced to settle in low positions. There will be options to move up and go beyond. Women have so much potential and think big. A feminist economy would completely shed light on the importance of women.
